Ghost photographed in a pub in Milton Keynes.

Hunt launched for ghostly, grey lady.

SIGHTINGS of a ghostly lady dressed in grey have failed to spook hardy pub regulars.

In fact, they are so keen to prove the historic watering hole is haunted that they are inviting people to join them on an official ghost hunt on Saturday.

Starting at 11.30pm and finishing at 3.30am, the hunt hopes to unveil a host of paranormal activities at the Lowndes Arms in Whaddon.

Already landlord and landlady Jeff and Suzy Chandler are convinced they have at least one resident spook.

“My husband has seen a ghostly image of a lady dressed in grey on three occasions,” said Suzy.

More worryingly, the pub chef witnessed a large chopping knife lift itself off the kitchen worktop and throw itself across the kitchen, she added.

“The chef is constantly complaining of ‘mischief’ in the kitchen whereby items disappear then mysteriously reappear.”

Staff have also heard footsteps upstairs when nobody was there and a barman saw a door handle move and the door rattle when he was alone in the 17th century building.

The Chandlers, who bought the pub last year, have already called in an expert spiritualist medium.

The medium, who used high tech cameras and vibration meters, claimed he found ‘high levels’ of paranormal activity.

He reported: ‘Spiritual activity ranged from hearing footsteps of a wooden floor – the corridors were carpeted – hearing whistles, feelings of dread and despair and huge temperature drops’.

Romney's ancestor haunts a Kendal Pub.

Is the ghost of Mitt Romney's ancestor haunting Kendal pub?

A GHOST that is a distant relative of American presidential candidate Mitt Romney is believed to be haunting a newly-refurbished pub.

The mischievous spirit of Agnes Romney has been sighted by staff at Romneys, in Kendal, and has knocked drinking glasses off tables, opened drawers and closed doors.

Her brother is believed to be the great great grandfather of the Mitt Romney, the Republican Party nominee running against Barack Obama.

She was also the first cousin, once removed, of the famous Kendal painter George Romney.

Assistant manager Hennie Kuger, of Kendal, said he had seen the early 19th century ghoul in window reflections and believed she was ‘hanging around her old home’

The 32-year-old thought sightings of Agnes would end once renovation work at the hostelry on Milnthorpe Road was completed but she ‘keeps making her presence known’.

“I came to England in 2002 and worked here when it was the Kendal Arms,” he said.

“That’s when I first heard stories about Agnes. I’ve never been a believer in ghosts myself but one evening when I was having my meal upstairs in the function room I saw a reflection of an old woman in the window “It was dark outside and in the reflection she looked like a little lady, a bit like my grandma.

“When I looked behind me there was no one there. Agnes used to live up in the top of the building with her sister.”

Mr Kuger said other staff had also reported mysterious goings on at Romneys. He added: “Quite often, late at night, we hear footsteps and sometimes you hear creaking.

“Glasses just fall off the shelf. Once, we filled a bin to prop a door open and when we came back to it the bucket had moved and the door was shut. She also opens drawers.

“I think she’s just hanging around in her old house.”

Martin Orrom, of the Romney Society, said Agnes’ links with the Kendal pub were unclear, as was much of her life.

He said: “I can’t see any link between her and the house in Kendal, although George Romney’s house, where he lived after retirement, is quite close on Milnthorpe Road.”

Queen Mary Ghost appears again.

Cruise ship ghost 'caught on camera

A MYSTERIOUS woman floats at the end of a corridor - in a photo said to depict the ghostly inhabitant of a famous cruise ship.

Spook hunter Valentina Lomborg is convinced her snapshot features the Lady in White, who has 'haunted' the Queen Mary for more than half a century

The ship was once a luxury liner, ferrying the rich and famous between London, Southampton and New York.

Retired in 1967 it's now a hotel, moored in Long Beach, Californa.

As well as a regular influx of paying guests, the hotel is rumoured to be home to a string of phantoms - including a Lady in White, who can sometimes be seen dancing in what was once the first class lounge.

Dane Valentina, a former model, checked into the floating hotel to search for the ship's spooky squatters - and she was stunned by what she discovered.

While onboard, the glamorous ghost hunter felt compelled to start taking photographs. When she later studied the snaps, she spotted the ghostly figure standing in a doorway.

Valentina said: "She wasn't visible to the naked eye. It was only when I got home and looked at the photos I picked it up.

"It could only be the Lady in White. She is often seen by workers, but as far as I'm aware nobody has captured her on camera in this kind of detail."

The Queen Mary's other ghostly inhabitants are said to include an 18-year-old engineer who was killed during a fire drill, a young girl who drowned in a swimming pool and a young woman who was murdered in a changing room.

Ghostly goings on at Welsh pub.

Ghostly goings on at Pontypool pub.

VODKA, brandy and whisky aren't the only spirits at one Pontypool pub where so called ghosts have sent everyone from barmaids to builders running scared.

The souls of a little girl named Emily and a small boy in Victorian dress are said to be regular visitors to The Hanbury Arms, according to staff who don't like being in the building alone.

A man believed to a former executioner at the 1830s building where criminals were once hanged, is also said to be a frequent punter and staff believe they have captured evidence of their existence on videos, which show so called "orbs" of light darting about the bar.

Glasses have spontaneously smashed, lights have been switched on when no-one is in the room and even a barrel of cider was split open in the locked and empty cellar.

Even workmen refurbishing the building upstairs have downed tools claiming they have felt a bitterly cold presence whilst working, accompanied by an unexplained feeling of dread.

Manager Rhian Phillips claims to have heard whispers coming from the empty cellar and refuses to enter certain parts of the pub alone, while other staff have reported a strong smell of garlic in specific spots.

Since owner Sean O'Connor took over the pub last December three paranormal experts have visited and all have been convinced of the spirits presence.

But Mr O'Connor and his business partner Mark Baker, both 47, are not fazed and have instead taken a keen interest in finding out more.

Mr Baker has even ordered electrical magnetic field detectors, motion sensors and voice recorders from America in a bid to gather evidence.

He said: "It does not worry me, I just laugh at it, but it's not funny when it costs us money like when we lost 88 pints of Strongbow when the barrel was split."

Mr O'Connor added: "The experiences we have had have been so profound and tangible that you've got option but to believe it."

Clifton couple haunted by the ghostly image of 'young child' captured on CCTV

Clifton couple haunted by the ghostly image of 'young child' captured on CCTV.

A COUPLE have been left mystified after seeing a white ghost-like image float in front of their CCTV cameras in the early hours.

Lisa and Phil Rigley, of Clifton, were amazed when they replayed their CCTV camera later in the day to see a white blur the shape of a small person float over their car in the driveway.

It disappeared off screen for about a minute or so before dashing across the road again in front of their house.

The couple, who live in Sturgeon Avenue, installed CCTV a while ago after damage was caused to their cars.

Last week, a neighbour asked them whether they had seen anything suspicious on their CCTV after finding something missing from the garden.

However, when they played it back in the morning they were shocked by what they saw.

Mrs Rigley, 44, said: "The image of a child jumped over my fence, landed over the roof of my car, flew down the street and flew back.

"I'm absolutely gobsmacked by this. I've got the footage here, it's the image of a young child about four or five."

The couple have four cameras but only the one black and white camera picked up the image.

"It's a ghost, it's got to be," said Mrs Rigley, who said their dog always woke up and barked if there were people around the house but did not disturb them that night.

"The dog hears everything," she said.

"It really was spooky. It was one of those weird feelings where you just think to yourself, 'what on earth is it?'"

She added: "It looks like Casper [the friendly ghost]".

She was in the house with daughter-in-law Sam at the time but neither woke up or heard anything around 1.30am, which is when the image appeared on the CCTV.

"Phil is very cynical," she said.

"He doesn't believe in ghosts. I'm quite open-minded but I just don't know. I've never seen a ghost in my life but to see that – it's mind-blowing, it's very strange."

Ghost Photographs. Real or Fake?

Don't turn out the light! Terrifying photos of ghosts that will keep you up at night.

These are the things that go bump in the night.

From murdered slaves to tortured hospital patients to forgotten sailors, ghost stories will
send a shiver down most people's spines.

But this collection of images will call into question everything you think you know about
the spirit world... and how easy it may be to cross back over from the 'other side'.

Paranormal investigators have spent decades painstakingly researching each photograph,
debunking some and failing to disprove others.

(Taken at Corroboree Rock at Alice Springs, Northern Territory, Australia in 1959,
this photograph appears to show a woman holding her hands toward her face, peering out
into the distance.)

(Locals of Quezon City, Philippines, steer clear of Balete Drive at night. They say a woman in white with long black hair, her face covered in blood, stands in the centre of the road. Drivers pack their backseat with passengers because if there is one empty seat, an uninvited guest just might take it.)

(This woman was visiting the Fleet Air Arm Centre in Yelverton, Somerset, in 1987. Posing for the photo, she said she felt strangely cold, though it was a hot day. She also claims she was the only one in the aircraft... so who is that sitting to her right?)

(Chloe was a slave at the house on a plantation in St Francisville, Louisiana. After being caught snooping on her master's private conversation, he cut off her ear. Seeking revenge, Chloe baked a cake out of toxic oleander leaves, intended for her cruel boss. When his wife and daughters ate it instead, she fled but was lynched by fellow slaves. She still haunts the plantation to this day.)

Take the tale of the white lady of the Philippines.

Locals of Quezon City steer clear of Balete Drive at night as they say that a woman in
white with long black tresses, face covered in blood, stands in the centre of the road,
staring at oncoming vehicles.

Drivers try to avoid the street at all costs - but if they must pass, they pack their backseat
with passengers because if there is one empty seat, an uninvited guest just might take it.

In photographs, she appears as a bright, white light in the road, legs barely visible.

Or consider the story of Chloe the inquisitive slave.

Chloe lived at the house of Myrtle's Plantation in St Francisville, Louisiana.

She would often listen in on conversations she wasn't supposed to, snooping in on her
master's private talks.

One afternoon, Chloe was caught. According to legend, her master cut off her ear as
punishment.

For revenge, Chloe baked a cake out of oleander leaves, which are poisonous.

She wanted her cruel master to taste it, but his wife and daughters beat him to it.

She fled the house, but was lynched by her fellow slaves. She still haunts the plantation
to this day, listening in on the conversations of its visitors.

Chloe can sometimes be seen hiding behind the doors, columns, or bushes on the
residence.

(This picture was taken in February 2002 of what used to be a local general store. It appears the building has attracted some shoppers from the other realm as well.)

(This early 20th century snap of a bureau was taken at the request of a furniture dealer by Montague Cooper, a well-respected photographer of the day. It appears he was so good, even a ghost wanted to pose.for him.)

(The Pink Lady of Greencastle, Indiana, was discovered by ghost hunter Guy Winters when he
went with a friend to photograph the woman who haunts the O'Hare Mansion.)

(This photograph was taken during the American Civil War. A ghost, believed to be that of a dead soldier, was captured walking up these stairs in a basement.)

But not all ghosts have been scorned.

An Australian woman named Mrs Andrews was visiting the grave of her daughter in a
cemetery in Queensland, in the 1940s when she took a photo.

Her daughter Joyce had died the year before at the age of 17. She was shocked to find a
child in the photo that she did not recognise sitting on top of the grave.

Australian paranormal researcher Tony Healy visited the cemetery in the late 1990s to find
out what had happened.

He found that near Joyce's grave, two infant girls were buried.

(Diane and Peter Berthelot visited Worstead Church in Norfolk in 1975. Peter snapped a photo of his wife praying silently in the pew. They didn't realise until later that she was not alone.)

Diane and Peter Berthelot visited Worstead Church in Norfolk in 1975 with their 12-year-
old son.

Peter snapped a photo of his wife praying silently in the pew.

When they looked at the photos a few months later, a friend asked 'Who's that sitting behind
you, Di?'

The mysterious figure appeared to be dressed in old-fashioned clothing, including a bonnet, according to About.com.

Confused and confounded, the couple returned to the church the next year to share their
photograph.

The church vicar, Reverend Pettit, told the Berthelots the legend of the White Lady.

The ghost, Reverend Pettit said, was known to visit people who had fallen ill, offering them
comfort and healing them.

Diane was shocked because when the photo was taken, she was taking antibiotics and was
not doing well.

The legends of the White Lady date back more than 100 years. She is said to appear on
Christmas Eve every year and the church in which she once dwelled is now an aptly
named pub: The White Lady.

(Robert A. Ferguson, author of Psychic Telemetry, was speaking in Los Angeles,
California, on November 16, 1968. He believed his brother Walter, who died in
1944 during World War II, was standing beside him.)

(Mrs Andrews took this picture while visiting her daughter's grave in Queensland, Australia in the 1940s. Her child Joyce had died the year before aged 17. She was shocked to find a young stranger sitting on the grave. When paranormal researcher Tony Healy visited the cemetery in the 1990s, he found that near Joyce's grave, two infant girls were buried.)

(In 1924, the SS Watertown was en route to the Panama Canal from New York City when James Courtney and Michael Meehan were killed by gas fumes in a freak accident while cleaning a cargo tank. Soon after, crew members saw two faces in the water following the ship.)

Some of the photographs have been researched for decades, with paranormal aficionados
looking into their origins.

In 1924, for example, the SS Watertown was en route to the Panama Canal from New York
City.

James Courtney and Michael Meehan were killed by gas fumes in a freak accident while
cleaning a cargo tank.

In the days following their deaths, crew members began reporting seeing two faces in the
water following the ship.

The captain snapped several photographs of the water where their faces appeared and of
five, one appeared to contain the apparitions.

(This photograph was taken hours before this dying man's last breath. Three mysterious orbs appeared in the images, which some believe to be spirits and others swear are fingerprint smudges.)

Blake Smith looked into the history of the image after it frightened him in elementary
school.

He says the story originated with the oil company Cities Service (CITGO) who were the
owners of the Watertown. The first publication of the image was in the in-house magazine
Service in 1934, Mr Black says.

He found another paranormal investigator's research, which included information about
how the captain's film was developed.

A commercial photographer in New York apparently took hold of the film once the ship
docked.

Mr Blake consulted Joe Nickell, investigator with the Centre for Inquiry about his
opinion.

(Two men are seen working on renovations for this old and 'empty' hospital in 1918 - but on the far left balcony, they're not alone.)

'That picture has a suspiciously hard edge to the (viewer’s) left side of the face on the left,
and this ruler-straight line (the edge of a rope) extends all the way to the top of the (cropped)
picture. This looks like some form of photographic skulduggery (indicative of cutting and
pasting, or possibly masking in conjunction with an airbrush).'

Despite his findings, he believes that one of the ghost faces may be real, the second added
for effect.

'The photo does date from a time when bogus spirit photos were commonly produced,' he
admits.

Paranormal Activity at American Pizza Restaurant.

Is Stocky’s Pizza Haunted? Shocking Surveillance Footage Points to Paranormal Activity.

Many folks believe in ghosts, but few can say they’ve caught evidence of a haunting on video. Stocky’s Pizza employee Lori Evans says there’s not only a ghost haunting the recently opened Haughton, Louisiana pizzeria, but that it’s far from friendly. And she has some unnerving surveillance camera footage to prove it.

Last Saturday morning, Evans arrived at Stocky’s to find the ice scoop in the middle of the kitchen floor. When the staff left the night before, it was placed on top of the ice machine where it’s normally kept.

The discovery was the proverbial “straw that broke the camel’s back,” Evans tells Kiss Country.

A number of similarly eerie incidents prior to that morning prompted her to scour the surveillance video to see just what was going on. What she discovered will make you shiver.

The following video was recorded on July 14 at a little after 6 a.m. — hours before the arrival of any of the staffers. Nobody was in the pizzeria at the time, confirms Evans.

Watch closely at the top left portion of your screen. What you’re seeing is two metal ice scoops flying off the top of the ice machine. Not falling, but FLYING! According to Evans, the way the scoops are stacked makes it very unlikely for them to fall, let alone be thrown halfway across the kitchen.

Over the past few months, Evans says several other inexplicable events have shaken up the staff, including flying bottles and a feeling that someone was watching them from the shadows:

"The first thing that happened was when I was standing in the kitchen area at the dough roller working. All of a sudden a bottle of tobasco sauce hit me in the back then landed on the ground. I looked back because the bottle had been on top of the microwave. A server who was in the dining area actually saw it happen and we were both freaked out because it flew across room as opposed to just falling from its spot! We started wondering at that point. The tobasco sauce has been mysteriously thrown several times and busted on one occasion! Another time was when we were working and heard a loud crash in the back hall. When we went to see what it was, there was a broom and a dust pan both on the floor. They “snap” into a holder on the wall so they are never on the floor. They’d been hanging there fine all day with no problems and snap into seperate holders, yet both fell???? The motion sensors have gone off twice and the alarm company has called the owner to come out and check; to find nothing. Several of us have actually “felt” a presence and had the hair stand up on our arms/neck. When I came in that morning and found those on the floor, so far from their spot, I knew it was time to check it out on tape and we finally found evidence of activity!

Evans believes this surveillance video is proof positive that something paranormal exists in the popular establishment, besides the “heavenly” pizza and salad bar.

But who — or what — could be haunting the pizzeria? Years before Stocky’s Pizza opened, the location was Walker Bros. convenience store. Evans tells Kiss Country that she’s heard a terrible automobile accident happened on the premises in which a woman was hit and her car actually smashed through the wall of the store. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Evans believes she never left.

House haunted by Titanic's Captain goes up for sale.

My haunting goes on: Couple sell house plagued by ghost of Titanic captain who was born there (...and it even had a flooded kitchen)

A couple are hoping to sell the house where the Titanic’s captain was born - despite it being haunted by the doomed vessel’s skipper.

Former residents of the 19th century Victorian property - the birthplace of Captain Edward John Smith - are convinced they’ve seen the ghost of the ship’s master in the bedroom.

The previous owners of the house even reported a mysterious flood in the kitchen and an ICY chill in the dining room.

Captain Smith, who was among 1,500 people who died when the Titanic struck an iceberg a century ago, lived at the house until he began his naval career as a teenager.

Married couple Neil and Louise Bonner paid £35,000 for the two-bedroom property in the Hanley area of Stoke-on-Trent, Staffs, in 2002.

But after renting it out for the last decade, the couple say there have been a number of ghostly sightings and 'spooky goings-on'.

Freelance writer Mr Bonner, 64, said: 'Some years ago we had a single chap living in there and he rang up one day convinced he had seen the ghost of the captain.

'He had been at sea himself and said he was in bed when he saw him drift across the room.

'The ghost wasn’t in a naval uniform or anything but he was certain he had seen him.

'It hasn’t caused anyone to move out, but without doubt it could be haunted by the captain’s ghost because other people have reported spooky goings-on.

'We’ve heard of things going bump in the night from other tenants.

'Some have said they felt a really cold chill passing over them - as cold as an iceberg.'

To celebrate the 100th anniversary of the disaster, the couple, who live in Baswich, Staffordshire, are now putting the house back on the market for £80,000.

Pub with a special spirit

MYSTERY: Who's the ghoul captured in spooky snapshot?

A pipe-smoking old man who spookily appeared in a pub photo could be a ghost, according to regular drinkers at the bar.

Adrian O'Brien, who took the photo on Arthur Guinness Day in Wicklow, is adamant there was no similar man present when he clicked his camera.

Locals at The Gin Mill pub in Arklow do not recognise the phantom punter and have no recollection of seeing the man on the day.

Adrian has strongly refuted any suggestion that the pictures have been tampered with.
"The pictures are 110pc genuine," he said. "The leading expert on photography in the
world is free to come down and examine the photos. They haven't been touched.

Examined

"It would have been difficult in the past to super-impose an image on to a photograph, but
it can be done nowadays.

"Why would I bother in conjuring this up on a computer when anyone with knowledge of
computers and photography could do it

"We have the raw files, which can be examined by any labs."

Meanwhile, staff at the pub are especially interested in locating the ghostly figure, to bar
him for smoking in the premises, as the man appears to have a pipe.

"There is a blown-up copy of the photo in the bar and nobody has the faintest idea of who
it is," said a barmaid, who was working on the day the photo was taken, September 24.

"The plan was to take a photo to mark the occasion. It's so weird.

"I certainly didn't serve him on the day."

Mr O'Brien, a photographer, admitted to be shaken up about the photo and that his studio
in Arklow has been engulfed with people trying to identify the elderly man.

"It's created a mad buzz," he said. "We have loads of people coming into the office to view
the pictures to see if it's their dead relation.

"I don't believe in ghosts or anything, but this has sent shivers down my spine"

Even the most ardent believers in the paranormal are sceptical as to whether this image is
that of a ghost.

Brian Gallagher, of Leinster Paranormal, an organisation which investigates paranormal
activity using "logic before paranormal", can't be sure of what was captured on camera that day.

"We see this sort of thing very often" he said.

"To be certain, we would have to interview everyone involved, but it is likely the person
in the picture is not a ghost but a reflection of some sort.

"Of course, we cannot be 100pc sure about its authenticity, but at this early stage I would
be sceptical."

Eastenders Star, Lacey Turner: I felt the spirit of my dear gran.

Lacey Turner: I felt the spirit of my dear gran.

LACEY TURNER is perfect for her new supernatural roles – she has had messages from beyond the grave.

The former EastEnders star portrays a paramedic who sees dead people in Sky Living’s Bedlam and is set to play a witch in ITV2 drama Switch.

And she believes her gran has been in touch since she died.

Brunette beauty Lacey also admits having visited mediums and clairvoyants for advice.

In an interview with Radio Times, out today, she said: “I was four when she died and her name was Amelia, which is my middle name, but we called her Nanny Leo because her dog was called Leo.

“I’ve been to see mediums and they’ve said, ‘Your nan’s here’ and sometimes I do think that I’ve been with her.

“I was at an awards do once... I felt a hand on my shoulder and there was no one there.

“I don’t know if you make yourself believe it, but I do think she was there.”

Despite believing in ghosts, Lacey has decided to stop trying to communicate with the spirit world.

Talking about visiting psychics, Lacey said: “Some things they say I think, ‘Hmm... Googled.’”

Next up for Lacey is the BBC1 drama True Love, co-starring ex Doctor Who David Tennant and This Is England actress Vicky McClure.

Since leaving her role as mouthy Stacey Slater in EastEnders 18 months ago, Lacey has had a guest slot in Being Human and played the doctor’s bride in BBC3’s music and dance extravaganza Frankenstein’s Wedding.

Talking about leaving EastEnders, Lacey said: “However much I loved working there and loved playing Stacey, I came into it so young.

“I was curious to see what else I could do.”

And the starlet has also inspired her sisters to tread the boards behind her.

Her youngest sister Lily Harvey, 11, arrived in Walford as Shenice, daughter of Kat’s troublesome pal Martina, and Daisy Turner, 21, appeared in Hollyoaks last year as Jenny.

Haunted Scotland.

Scotland’s spectres: Haunted castles, part 2

SCOTLAND is famous the world over for its castles - the fortified homes of the great (but not necessarily good) of times gone by - and each one of them has at least one ghostly story to tell.

In the second part of our series on haunted castles, we look at five castles in Scotland with their fair share of ghostly goings-on.

Braemar Castle

The castle at Braemar has been leased to the local community since 2006, but is owned by the chief of the Farquharson Clan. During its long history it has served as a hunting lodge, military garrison and family home.

The ghost that haunts Braemar Castle is said to be a young woman who lost her life through a tragic misunderstanding, over two hundred years ago, with her new husband. Women were, at the time, virgins until marriage, and the wedding night was, perhaps understandably, treated with a certain level of apprehension and in some cases, fear. It is said that this particular young woman woke early on the morning after her wedding night to find that her husband was nowhere to be seen. Becoming distressed and then ashamed as she came to the conclusion that her husband had found her to be an unsatisfactory lover, she jumped to her death from the window of the bridal room. The bridegroom had in fact been on an early-morning hunting trip, and returned to the castle to be met with news of his wife’s death. These days, the young woman’s ghost returns to the castle whenever newlyweds are staying there.

Brodie Castle

The seat of the Brodie family for hundreds of years, Brodie Castle experienced paranormal activity on a September night in 1889. The castle had been rented out, with the then Earl of Brodie abroad in Switzerland, with the servants remaining in the castle. The butler heard strange noises coming from the Earl’s study; moaning, and what sounded like papers being rustled or pages being turned. The other servants reported hearing the same, despite the study having been locked when the Earl had left for Switzerland and instructions left that no-one be allowed to enter the room in his absence. The servants searched for a key, thinking there might be an intruder in the castle, but couldn’t find one.

News that the Earl had died the previous night in Switzerland reached the castle the following day, with the assumption that the strange noises heard in the study had been the ghost of the Earl, who had returned to his study after his death, perhaps to deal with some outstanding business.

The Castle of Mey

Situated a few miles from John O’Groats in the far north of Scotland, the Castle of Mey was for many years the Highland home of the Queen Mother. The castle is home to a Green Lady who haunts a room at the top of the old tower, said to be the ghost of Elizabeth Sinclair, daughter of George, the fifth Earl of Caithness. After falling in love with a local farmhand, deemed a most unsuitable partner for a young lady of Elizabeth’s status, she was confined to the tower as her father sought to put an end to the relationship. Elizabeth is said to have died when she leaned out of the tower window to catch a glimpse of her love working in the fields in the distance, lost her balance and fell to her death.

There are still Sinclairs who live in the surrounding area, possible descendants of George and Elizabeth.

Claypotts Castle

The White Lady of Claypotts Castle is a more unusual tale of the paranormal. The castle was built at the end of the 16th century by John Strachan and his son Gilbert, and has passed through various ownerships throughout history. A White Lady appears at an upstairs window on 29th May each year, appearing to be very distressed and waving a handkerchief. She is said to be the ghost of Marion Ogilvy, daughter of the first Lord of Airlie, who was in love with Cardinal Beaton of St Andrews. She used to wait at the window for him to arrive and wave a handkerchief as a signal. On May 29th 1546, she waited in vain, as the Cardinal lay murdered in St Andrews Castle. On the anniversary of his death, she resumes her vigil - but here’s the strange part. Claypotts Castle in its present form, and the window from which the White Lady waves, wasn’t built until well after 1546. Marion Ogilvy, who is believed to be the White Lady, never lived at the Castle - she lived at Melgund Castle - and Cardinal Beaton is not known to have had anything to do with Claypotts Castle either. If he ever visited, there is no record of this taling place. So who is the White Lady and what’s the real story?

Comlongon Castle
Another Green Lady haunts the Dumfriesshire castle of Comlongon, said to be the ghost of Marion Caruthers. In the late 16th century, she was coerced into marrying a man she didn’t love, and fled to Comlongon Castle to take refuge in the home of her uncle. Not much is known about Marion Caruthers, but it looks like she eventually despaired of the whole sorry situation and threw herself to her death from the castle’s tower.

Haunted Scotland.

Scotland’s specters: Haunted castles, part 1

Scotland, a land steeped in mystery with a bloody history to match. One of the many things that attract people to Scotland is its vast amounts of castles and the dark and sinister past they goes with them.

Scotland is famous the world over for its castles - the fortified homes of the great (but not necessarily good) of times gone by - and each one of them has at least one ghostly story to tell.

Here we begin a new series on these old castles and the mysterious ghosts which reportedly frequent them.

Abergeldie Castle

The 16th century Abergeldie Castle, which stands barely two miles from the royal family’s country home at Balmoral, has had its fair share of visiting guests over the years. But it also has an extra, uninvited ‘guest’, known as French Kate or Kitty Rankie. She was apparently a French woman who was employed in the castle at one time and was suspected of witchcraft. After being confined in the castle she was taken to a nearby hill and burned at the stake. So it’s perhaps no surprise that her angry spirit returned to the castle after her death.

Balgonie Castle

Balgonie Castle in Fife is open to the public again after falling into disrepair in the 18th and 19th centuries. The ghost for which the castle is most famous, Green Jeannie, has been seen by the laird, members of his family, and visitors. She usually makes an appearance at night, in a particular part of the castle. As well as Jeannie, there have been reports of strange noises and shadowy figures at Balgonie.

Ballindalloch Castle

This Banffshire castle has not one but four well documented apparitions. In the Pink Room, a bedroom, several visitors have reported a beautiful lady dressed in crinoline; she is a benign presence who means no harm. The Green Lady, meanwhile, is a mystery figure but has been seen on more than one occasion in the dining room. There is also a male ghost who is thought to be General James Grant of the American Wars of Independence, who died in 1806 and is buried close to the estate. The fourth ghost is a sad young woman who fell passionately in love, only to be rejected. She used to be seen crossing the old Bridge of Avon on her way to post another letter to her beloved.

Barcaldine Castle

Situated near Loch Creran in Argyll, Barcaldine Castle is haunted by a pair of Campbell brothers. In the 18th century the laird of Barcaldine was Donald Campbell, who had been involved in a bitter feud with Stewart of Appin. Stewart killed Campbell with his sword and then sought refuge at the home of the victim’s brother Duncan, who had not heard about the murder. Duncan was haunted by visions of his brother, but by the time he realised what they meant, Stewart was gone.

Bedlay Castle

This castle dates from the 12th century and was first built as a palace for the Bishops of Glasgow. One day, around the year 1350, a certain Bishop Cameron was found dead, face down in the waters of a nearby loch. His ghost caused considerable torment to the castle’s inhabitants for centuries to come, and there was even reported to have been an unsuccessful attempt at an exorcism in the 18th century. There have been reports of the Bishop’s large figure appearing spontaneously, and the sound of him pacing relentlessly in neighbouring rooms.

London Underground Ghosts - Part Three.

The London Underground  - Part Three.

Bank Station.

Nestling in the heart of London's financial district is one of the oldest stations on the underground network, Bank Station.

The ticket hall of Bank Station is built under the site of old burial grounds belonging to St Mary Woolnoth Church, this site has been used as a site of worship for approximately 2000 years and traces of Roman and Pagan religious buildings have been found under the foundations of the present church.

In the late 19th and early 20th century the church underwent some major changes and was marked for demolition on a number of different occasions but managed to be saved this fate every time.

Between 1897 and 1900 the City and South London Railway built Bank Station beneath the church, they were in fact given permission to demolish the church but there was so much public outcry about this that the decision was made to let the church building remain. However the crypt was sold to the railway company and the bones were removed to be reburied in Ilford. The subsoil from this area was used in the building of the station.

On January 11th, 1941, during the blitz, over 50 people were killed and nearly 70 people were injured when the Central Line ticket hall took a direct hit from a German bomb. The resulting crater measured 120ft long and 100ft wide and it had to be covered with a bailey-bridge for traffic to pass over. The station was put out of action for 2 months.

In 1982 Andy Harkness an underground employee of  35 years was working the night shift at Bank, the last train had left the station and it was Andy's job to ensure that there was nobody left in the station and that it was safe to lock up. Part of this routine is to check that the 4 lifts were empty and clean, Andy checked all lifts including lift one that had not been operating that day, his inspection of lift one showed nothing, it was empty and clean he closed the doors and started to walk away, as he got about  6 feet away from the lift he heard a "Knock, Knock, Knock"  coming from the other side of lift  1 door. Andy knew there was nobody in the lift as he had just checked it and the lift had been shut down, there was no wind around the station to rattle the doors either, Andy was alone on the station he was the only person who was doing the rounds on this station. Andy thought that he must have been hearing things so he decided to carry on with his inspection of the station.

His next stop for inspection was the switch room, he says that he opened the door to the switch room and wedged it open, he then turned off the lights in this room just leaving the emergency lights on, he then left the switch room leaving the its door wedged open as was the customer at night, as he walked away the door to the switch room slammed shut with an almighty force making Andy jump to afraid to even look back.

Andy made a hasty retreat from Bank Station and never worked on that side of the station again.

Another report of ghostly sightings happened at Bank, an employee was working the late shift and was monitoring the CCTV cameras around the station, he noticed on one of them that there was an old lady standing in a corridor , she was not moving around and looked as if she were confused or lost, he said to his colleagues in the control room that he would go and investigate.

He made his way to the corridor where he had seen the lady standing and as he rounded the corner he could see her still standing there, he made his way over to where she was standing and asked the lady what she was doing there and if he could help her in any way, she turned to look at him but then just turned away and started to walk away from him, puzzled he watched her for a short while but then decided to go after her, he made his way around the corner of the corridor but the lady was nowhere to be seen, there was no where for her to have gone as there were no doors or corridors off this one, and he doubted she could have run to the end of the corridor in the time it took him to go after her.

Although not directly associated with Bank Station but more the building the station is named after and its location is a well known haunting known as the  Old Lady of Threadneedle Street, Bank Station is located at the end of this street.

The story goes that in 1811 a clerk at the bank of England named Philip Whitehead was accused of forgery, he was arrested and tried and found guilty, in early1812 he was duly hung for the crime. Philip had a sister named Sarah, they were very close and friends of Sarah decided to keep the news of Philips crime and death from her as long as they possible could.
They removed Sarah to a house in Wine Office Court off Fleet Street. However it was inevitable that Sarah would get concerned about the lack of visits and correspondence from her brother and one day took it upon herself to visit the bank to visit her brother, a clerk on duty at the counter told Sarah the whole story of  Philips crime and subsequent death.

Sarah was devastated by the news she had heard, for a short while she locked herself away, slowly going crazy with grief, she took to wearing all black, she wore a black dress and a black cape with a hood and a black veil , this attire made her look like a nun and then she started turning up at the bank everyday asking the whereabouts of her brother.
The grief had turned the poor woman's mind, it had driven her crazy, she thought her beloved brother was still alive and still working at the bank. Staff at the bank started to refer to her as the Black Nun.

Upon her death she was buried at St Christopher le Stocks church which was located to the rear of the bank, (the bank has now been extended over this land).

Over the years there have been many people who have reported whilst making way along Threadneedle Street encountering an old lady dressed all in black and resembling a nun, who has walked up to them and with downcast eyes has asked them "have you seen my brother", before disappearing in front of them.

Could it be that Sarah is the old lady that was seen in the corridor of the underground?

Not so much a ghost story but an interesting tale non the less. A bank clerk who died in 1798 was worried that his body would be stolen by body snatchers (who supplied London’s surgeons with corpses for dissections) as at 6ft 7½inches tall he was considered a giant. The bank’s directors agreed to allow him to be buried in the bank garden, and the coffin was discovered during the rebuilding works in 1933 and safely removed to Nunhead cemetery.

Ghostwatch : The show that terrified a nation

On 31st October 1992 the BBC broadcast a programme called Ghostwatch, as part
of their Halloween schedule. Ghostwatch was  advertised as a "live investigation
of a haunted house in Northolt, Greater London".

Once aired the programme caused a frenzy of calls to the BBC from irate and
frightened viewers, it is estimated that the BBC received around 30,000 calls
about the Ghostwatch programme, People were reported to be traumatised by
what they had witnessed happen on the screen and there were even reports of
people suffering Post Traumatic Stress Disorder after the show had been aired.
The British tabloids had headlines about the programme for days after it had
been shown and Ghostwatch has never been aired on British television since.

"So what was all the fuss about?"  Well. although advertised as a live on air
investigation of   haunted location that had poltergeist activity, it had actually
been recorded months before it was due to be aired on Halloween 1992. The
story was based on the Enfield Poltergeist and was written by Stephen Volk.
The programme had been advertised in the BBC's Radio Times listings
magazine with the list of actors and at the start of the programme there
was a "written by"credit. However many people across the UK still believed
this investigation to live and the paranormal activity taking place on the screen
to be real..

It was hosted by the very popular chat show host Michael Parkinson with co
presenters Sarah Green (children's presenter on Going Live) reporting live
from the house with Craig Charles while Mike Smith back in the studio
with Michael Parkinson.

I wonder if this would cause the same amount of uproar now if it was aired
for the first time?

Here is the link to Ghostwatch as aired back in 1992. Enjoy.

Another haunted pub in Birmingham.

More spirits than usual at haunted Birmingham pub.

JENNY Lavender awoke with a start, snapped from a deep sleep by someone, or
something, pressing hard on her legs.

She looked down, her breath turning to smoke in the icy room, and saw the covers
move, as if a child was silently walking over the bed.

The click of footsteps on the wooden floor made the 27-year-old sit upright, fear
etched on her face.

The giggles and whispers of children filled the air, causing Jenny to leap from
her bed. She clearly heard a lisping command of ‘hide’ before racing for the door.

Jenny, for better or worse, had made contact with one of the many ghosts that go
bump in the night at Hockley’s Red Lion pub.

“She was absolutely terrified,” said landlord, and Jenny’s partner, Dave Lewis,
“and convinced there was no logical explanation. She’s never been in the pub since”.

“Plenty have had very strange encounters at our pub,” added the 32-year-old, “but
Jenny’s was something else. I’ve never seen anything during my two years here.
Perhaps the spirits don’t like me.”

There’s a resident ghostly centurion soldier, who possibly wandered from nearby
Icknield Street Roman road, and an elegant lady in long gown and high collar
who strolls from kitchen to staff bedroom.

Regular Terry Oliver has had more than his share of spooky encounters at the
100-year-old watering hole.

Electrician Terry vividly remembers the moment he and two colleagues were working
to re-wire the pub cellar.

They downed tools when the apparition of a man in brown work coat and cloth cap
appeared in a corner.

They later learnt a drayman had been crushed on the exact spot, an 108 gallon barrel
pinning him to the floor.

The pub, which has more spirits than most, is featured in city ghost walks organised
by Michael Reddy and Ian Braisby.

Michael said there’s a good reason why the Red Lion has so many dead regulars.

“I think it’s down to work practises in the Jewellery Quarter going back in time,
” he said.

“Health and Safety was never a big thing, so, for example, you have the story of the
drayman squashed in the cellar. We talk about binge drinking today, but the
Victorians were quite partial to a tipple.”

Evidence of ghostly goings-on at the pub are compelling, added Michael.

“With the cellar incident, you have three people who stopped at the same time and
said, ‘did you see him?’.

Why would those three people all give exactly the same account – they had nothing to
gain from it?

Herne Bay Pier Ghost?

Herne Bay Pier Ghost?

Herne Bay Pier Ghost?

Ghost. Please watch all the way through ghostly figure starts moving at 1:02 Looking at the old derelict pier head 3/4 of a mile off Herne Bay Kent I noticed a dark human shape on the structure and was amazed when the figure started moving. This pier head is in a very dangerous condition and no one is allowed on it. The extremely derelict structure has signs all over it telling people to keep off. I looked all around the pier and filmed through the legs as you can see there is no boat moored to it.The pier head is all that is left of the country's third longest pier at over 3/4 mile long that was before the terrible storm of 1979 destroyed the middle section leaving the old paddle steamer docking station the only remaining section apart from the main pavilion area near the beach.Check out the piers history

Ghostly child seen on the A477

Spooky sighting sparks investigation

PARANORMAL investigators are to look into spooky sightings of a ghostly child
pulling a cartnear Carew.

The spooktacular sight was spotted on the A477. The witness told the Western
Telegraph: “Has anyone else seen a ghost of a young boy pulling a wooden cart
which is too large to be a toy?

“I saw him running across the road very quickly and when I arrived at the point
where he would have been, there was no sign of him.

“There were just very thick gorse bushes and there is no way he could have
disappeared intothese. I arrived there in seconds.

There was no sign of him.”

The sighting has now been passed on to Pembrokeshire Beyond, who investigate
ghostly going-on.

Co-founder Shaun Sables said: “Carew is a fascinating place. We have had many
reports of a variety of different sightings and experiences from people living and
visiting the area".

“From memory this is the first report of a boy pulling a cart that I have heard of".

“It’s hard for us to say what the cause of this is without more specifics and further
description ofthe sighting, though it may well be paranormal.”

Derek Acorah has rid a family of their terrifying ghosts.

TV psychic Derek Acorah banishes evil spooks for haunted mum-of-six.

Marie Williams, 34, and her six kids had been dogged by increasingly alarming incidents
since moving to their Victorian home in Sunderland last February.

The family were taunted with eerie sights and sounds and the spirits even ATTACKED
Marie and RANSACKED a bedroom.

Her kids were so scared that one slept in the living room while others would only go
upstairs in pairs.

A fed-up Marie appealed for help in The Sun last week — and ghost guru Derek, best
known for telly's Most Haunted, stepped in.

I joined Derek as he performed an hour-long "invocation"
ceremony — and personally witnessed the inexplicable.

Marie explained that six weeks after moving in she
would hear someone climbing the stairs then
"thunder" back down them — but no one was there.

Then a man would appear in the hallway and a ghostly little girl would run towards the
stairs then disappear.

She says: "One night we were in the dining room and there was an almighty crash from
upstairs.

"My 18-month-old Harvey's room was turned completely upside down — chests of
drawers, wardrobe, things on the wall, everything was on the floor."

"On another occasion I felt this burning sensation and ran to the mirror." There was a
2in red scratch on her neck.

Derek, 62, revealed: "Someone on this street has used a ouija board-like instrument to
open the portal to the other side. That allows spirits to come to the house."

Derek sealed off the front and back doors plus a portal he located in the living room. He
sprinkled rock salt at each site, which he says spirits cannot cross, and crystals to bring
purity.

A candle was placed at each door as Derek and Marie joined hands to say the "prayer of
invocation".

But the spirits were not giving up easily. One nipped Marie's legs, while a candle at the
back door was inexplicably thrown into the garden, its glass holder smashed.

I witnessed this myself and cannot think of any rational explanation.

Afterwards, a relieved Marie said: "I feel like a weight has been lifted."
