THE STONE TAPE THEORY.
Can everyday object like stone and bricks really record and hold sounds and images which can randomly be played back by their own means? It is a very interesting question and the subject itself if true could hold the answer too many of the reported ghost sightings and hauntings which have been reported for many years.
The Stone tape theory was the idea of British parapsychologist and archaeologist Thomas Charles Lethbridge. Lethbridge’s idea in 1961 was that electrical mental impressions released during a very traumatic or emotional time such as a murder or war could be absorbed by inanimate items like moist rock and stone. These images Lethbridge surmised could then under certain conditions be replayed over and over again for many years, just like those sounds and images recorded on magnetic tape.
This idea has since 1961become quite a popular explanation for many of the reoccurring sightings of events that have taken place in the past and had previously been labelled as ghost or hauntings, even though there is no scientific explanation for this. Scientists have never been able to prove that such items like stone or rock can absorb sounds and images, never mine have to ability to re-play them over again and again.
An argument against the stone tape theory is that we now live in a world where we a surrounded by concrete, stone and bricks, we cannot walk 50 meters in most towns and cities without passing something that is made of these materials. If as Lethbridge suggested these items can record traumatic events, then surely we would be seeing many more of the more modern day horrific tragedies replayed over? The 9/11 attack on the twin towers for instance.
On the other side of the argument is that we as humans may still be at a very early stage in our development and understanding, we have little to compare ourselves to in terms of our advancement during our time on earth, as such there is still an awful lot we have to learn and discover. Science by no means have discovered the answers to all the questions and mysteries of the world and what we believe to be correct today, could in years to come be proved incorrect.
The following is a couple of reported paranormal sightings that have been put down to the theory of stone tape by certain people.
The Prince of Wales Pub.
In the small town of Kenfig Mid-Glamorgan there is a pub called the Prince of Wales, the inn itself dates back to around the 15th century and was previously called Ty Newydd (New House) Tavern, it was renamed to the Prince of Wales during the late 18th Century in honour of George, Prince of Wales, who, in 1820, was crowned George IV.
During 1982 the landlord at the inn reported experiencing some paranormal occurrences after he had locked up for the night, he said once the pub was locked up for the night and he had retired to his living quarters he could hear organ music being played in the pub area and sounds of merriment, the clinking of glasses and loud talking in an old Welsh dialect, there was no organ in the pub. The landlord would of course go to the pub area and inspect the place to ensure that nobody had broken in but once he got there all was quiet and secure.
Tow gentlemen got to hear about going on at the inn and with the permission of the land lord agreed to carry out some experiments into what may be making these strange noises at night. John Marke an electrical engineer and Allan Jenkins an industrial chemist visited the pub to carry out an experiment which may well have never been tried before and that was to connect some electrodes into the stone walls of the pub. So one night they set up their equipment which comprised of electrodes (which has been stated were around 20,000 volts) being fed into the stones of the wall of the pub and then connected to some audio recording equipment, the gentlemen then left and the pub was locked up as normal and the landlord retired to bed.
The following day the two men returned to the inn to investigate what results they may have discovered from their experiment and to their surprise they found that their audio recoding equipment had actually picked up the sounds of organ music, they heard a clock ticking (there was no organ or clock in that room) and even more surprising was that they head people speaking in an old Welsh dialect.
Although since that time there have been doubts raised over this evidence at the time the two gentle concluded that the sounds that had taken place over years past in the inn had in fact been recorded in the very fabric of these old stones just like recordings on magnetic video or audio tape and at night when the inn is all locked up and quiet these recording are somehow being played back.
On this occasion it appears that the stones of the walls of the inn have over time absorbed the sounds of merriment and joy that have taken place over the years and at night these sounds are somehow replayed and can be heard not only by the human ear but also recorded onto tape.
But is it only sound that can be captured within the stone and brick of building or indeed other object or is it possible that visual events of yesteryear can also be recoded for playback many or even hundreds of years later?
Treasurers House, York.
This building was originally the home of the treasurer of York Minster, who occupied the site from 12th Century until 1539, when Henry VIII's officers stripped the Minister of it's assets during the Dissolution of the Monasteries
Not to long after this the property past in private hands and was largely rebuilt during the 17th century, there are however parts of the original building survive in the cellar of the house.
It is in the cellar of this property in 1953 that a young apprentice plumber by the name of Harry Martindale witnessed a sight that would change his life forever. He was working up a ladder in the cellar when he heard the sound of a distant trumpet, his puzzlement was intensified when he heard the trumpet again much closer this time and coming from behind him. Turing around he was astonished to see the head of a horse emerging from the wall behind him, then emerged the rest of the horse's body together with a ghostly rider dressed in full regalia of a Roman Soldier.
Young Harry was so shocked by the apparition that he fell from his ladder to the floor, while sitting on the floor looking up he witnessed, in all he counted 16 soldiers all who were cut off at the knees, he described them as all walking with their heads downcast, giving them an aura gloomy aura of utter dejection, and their appearance was grubby and dishevelled.
Once the soldiers had crossed the cellar and vanished into the opposite wall Harry picked himself up and ran from the cellar in fright, by chance on his way out he bumped into the curator of the building who took one look at Harry's terrified face and said "You've seen the Romans haven't you?"
It transpires that Harry Martindale was just one of many people to have witnessed the same ghostly patrol of Roman Soldiers in the cellar of the Treasurer's House.
Later excavation of the property discovered a section of Roman road approximately 12 or so inches beneath the cellar floor, this would explain why the soldiers Harry witnessed were cut off at the knees.
So was what Harry Martindale and many others reported as seeing a replay of Roman Soldiers retreating from a lost battle which had been recoded in the stonework of the old roman road to be replay hundreds of years later?
The story of what Harry Martindale and many others witnessed at the Treasurer's House in York is interesting in that they have all seen the same thing, the same event keeps replying it’s self over and over again to different people. So does the Stone Tape Theory apply to this property? Has the very stone work that made up the old Roman road recorded the events that took place hundreds of years ago and are now to this day playing back the sound and vision of the event over and over again when there is someone present to witness it?
This theory also raises the question, is it only stone and brickwork that could have the capability to record events like those above? There are after all many reports of objects being haunted, so could an object made out of clay or wood have the structure and ability to record an event that can be replayed again later?

Is Hever Castle haunted by the ghost of Anne Boleyn?

A tourist who was on a day trip to the childhood home of beheaded queen Anne Boleyn has captured a spooky image of what he claims is her GHOST.
Liam Archer was stunned when, on a visit to Hever Castle, he captured the image of the second wife of Henry VIII stalking the corridors.
The 26-year-old amateur photographer took a snap of an ornate fireplace in a dimly-lit living room in the 13th Century Kent castle.
But it was only when he returned home and studied the photo that he was amazed to spot what looks like a hovering HAND with a long finger apparently pointing towards the chimney.
Liam, who previously didn't believe in ghosts, is convinced it it the spirit of the young queen, who is said to haunt the castle.
He said: "In the prayer room there was a fog or a mist hovering around but I didn't think much of it at the time.
"I felt like an unknown force was pulling me through the castle. I couldn't see it but I could definitely feel it.
"I didn't know what to make of it because I didn't believe in ghosts at this point"
"It wasn't until three months after that I realised what I had taken a picture of.
"I am confident this is her.
"I believe there is something important historically inside the fireplace she wants me to recover."
Liam, from Lewes, East Sussex, was exploring Hever Castle with his family when he snapped the ghoulish picture.
It appear to show a woman's hand hovering in the left hand side of the picture, moving towards a fireplace.
It was taken in the castle which was the childhood home of Anne Boleyn which later came into the possession of King Henry's fourth wife, Anne of Cleves.

'Ghost of a woman and baby' spotted in Shropshire.
'Ghost woman and baby' spotted peering out of new housing estate window.
Natasha Oliver and her friends thought someone was watching them when they looked back at their photos and saw the figure - but when they went searching they found no one there.
Chilling images have surfaced that apparently show a ghost and her baby standing in a new housing estate watching a group of friends.
The spine-tingling photographs were posted on Facebook by Natasha Oliver, a mum-of-one from Wem, a historic market town in Shropshire.
They were taken five years ago and she said she and her friends are still creeped out by it.
Natasha, 22, said the group had gone to a field after a World Cup game to hang out and were taking photos of themselves on a digital camera.
But when looking back over the photos someone spotted a strange apparition in one of the open windows of a new housing block behind them that was being built.
Thinking they were being watched, some of her friends went to investigate, but the building site was completely abandoned.
Natasha said: "Someone realised there was a weird figure in one of the photos and we thought it was kind of freaky. The boys decided to go and climb the scaffolding of the building but there was nothing there.
"It couldn't have been building equipment and it clearly doesn’t look like any of us. And it was an empty building that was not finished so no one was living there."
Natasha said the site is an old wood yard and she is convinced the figure in the window is a ghost of one of the former workers.
"It’s on the site of an old wood yard so there would have been people working here. It could be any one of the workers. It looks maybe like a lady holding a baby."
Wem has previously hit the headlines before for its ghostly hauntings after a photograph taken by a local resident in 1995 when the town hall burned down showed a little girl in the doorway.
There was speculation that the girl was 14-year-old Jane Churm, who accidentally started a huge fire in Wem in 1677.
The ghost of Wem Town Hall became famous, receiving international publicity and visits from teams of 'ghostbusters'.
Later on the photo was examined by the National Museum of Photography which deemed it a fake.
But Natasha is sure this ghost of Wem is genuine.
"I would love someone to investigate it. There have been photos taken in the past of ghosts in Wem that have been proved fake but I truly believe there is something there.
"Quite often it comes up and random people in the pub question me about it but I can't explain it although I wish I could."

MORE than two-thirds of Britons have had a brush with the paranormal - and over a third claim to have seen a GHOST, according to a new survey.
The study, carried out to discover how many people believed in "paranormal activity" and would pay to see a clairvoyant, found a whopping 82 per cent of Britons believe in the supernatural.
More than two thirds (68 per cent) said they had experienced some sort of supernatural event - and more than half (56 per cent) said they had been given a sign that a deceased loved one is present.
Researchers at www.VoucherCodesPro.co.uk aimed to find out how many Britons believe in the paranormal and whether they would ever pay money to communicate with the dead or a deceased celebrity.
When asked to reveal their paranormal experiences, almost a third (31 per cent) claimed to have seen or felt the presence of a ghost.
And 16 per cent of people felt and late loved ones continued to protect and look out for them.
Nick Swan, founder and CEO of VoucheCodesPro.co.uk, said: “It’s surprising to know how many people claim to have seen ghosts or believe in the paranormal but I can definitely understand why.
"With the growing use of the internet, it’s easy to now share ghostly experiences with other paranormal fans and I believe these stories fuel our interest into the unknown."
Participants were also quizzed about their views of the growing psychic industry.
Just over a third (34 per cent) said they would pay cash to a psychic to try to communicate directly with a dead loved one.
And 11 per cent admitted to having already seen one, with the average amount they would be willing to pay for a psychic visit being £65.
Mr Swan added: "I also found it interesting to see just how many people would pay to see a psychic or medium, with some even saying they’ve already participated in this.
"It’s great that people get some closure or satisfaction from these encounters, however I would always be cautious when paying for a medium or a reading.
"Make sure you aren’t being conned, look at reviews and average costs on the internet before you jump in head first.”
The firm polled a total of 2,952 British adults aged 18-65.

Ghostly photobomb at Edinburgh Vaults
It's behind you! Tourist's picture of Edinburgh Vaults gets photobombed by a 'ghost'
Emma Surgenor and her sister thought they had been alone in a pitch black vault in Edinburgh - that is until they saw the photographs.
It seems to be a photograph of a tourist posing in the Edinburgh Vaults - but a closer look reveals a ghostly figure lurking right behind her.
Emma Surgenor, 32, got a severe case of the creeps when she looked back at the image and spotted a figure standing behind her sister.
The support worker from Blackpool, Lancs, who went for the night time tour last February with her sister, said there was only one other person in the pitch black vault with them at the time.
She said: "We took loads of pictures and some of them came up pitch black and some came through.
"We went through all the photos on my digital camera that evening and lightened up the pictures that came back black.
"To our shock this figure which looks like a man appeared in one of them. We got a chill sensation and just screamed 'Oh my God.' It was a creepy moment. My sister was petrified. She was going on about how he was standing right behind her. Then she thought it was pretty cool. It's pretty scary stuff. There was no one else there."
The 'spectral figure' who photobombed Emma's picture is alarmingly standing directly behind her sister wearing what appears to be a long coat and boots.
She believes it may be a ghost known as 'The Watcher' or 'Mr Boots.'
She said: "There are a lot of stories about a man down there who wears big boots and a coat and another called 'The Watcher' with long hair and 18th century clothing.
"It's weird that my sister was standing there behind him. She was pretty creeped out at first."
The Edinburgh Vaults are a series of chambers formed in the arches of the South Bridge which were completed in 1788.
For around 30 years, the vaults were used to house tradesmen, and as storage facility for illicit material, reportedly including the bodies of people killed by serial killers Burke and Hare for medical experiments.
As the conditions in the vaults deteriorated, due to damp and poor air quality, the businesses left and the poorest of Edinburgh's citizens moved in - however by around 1820, even they are believed to have left too.
That people had lived there was only discovered in 1985 during an excavation when toys, medicine bottles, plates, and other signs of human habitation were found.
Due to frequent reports of paranormal activity and ghost sightings the Edinburgh Vaults were featured on Living TV's Most Haunted.
Scottish Investigator Ryan O'Neill took part in a Most Haunted Live show on Halloween 2006.
Another television show, Ghost Adventures, investigated the vaults and claimed to have numerous encounters with spirits there.
The Watcher or Mr. Boots has apparently been seen by hundreds of visitors and with some reports describing him as tall with no eyes, a full beard, a long coat and big thigh-high boots.
Other reports suggest he watches visitors from the corridor and can be protective of the wall in one of the smaller vaults, sometimes shouting 'get out,' when people go near it.
Emma added: "I have been down there a few times in the past and got another picture last year of a hand behind this guy. It was pretty creepy down there.
"I have been a few times and always been creeped out. This time I didn't feel creeped out. There was no chill feeling when I took it or anything like that.
"I have another picture taken two seconds before and after where my sister isn't in the doorway and from the same angle and there is nothing there.
"It was so creepy but then we were chuffed we had found something. But it was real shock that made your hair stand on end."

Bristol's ghostbusters: Secretive group claims city is under siege by spirits.
A SECRETIVE paranormal group claims parts of Bristol are under siege by ghostly apparitions – and they have the evidence to prove it.
Bristol Second Sight Paranormal Group (BSS) has been going for a year. Members spend hours at sites taking pictures and recording sound and video.
Member Andy Smart contacted the Bristol Post wanting to share the group’s experiences visiting Halfpenny Bridge at Snuff Mills in Vassals Park in Fishponds over the past two months.

“I know people won’t believe it but the things going on in Snuff Mills is unbelievable – it is totally incredible,” Andy said. “When it comes to paranormal activity, you have to be there. Sceptics who comment have not been there.
The park, which Andy, describes as a “dark entity” does have a dark history.
It is famous for the Babes in the Wood murder in 1957 when five-year-old Royston Sheasby and his sister June, aged seven, were found buried in a shallow grave by the river Frome. No one was ever tried for their murder.
It is also thought to be haunted by a Duchess of Beaufort – who many believe died in a tragic horse riding accident – who it is said can be seen at midnight riding a phantom stallion.
But whatever Andy, and other group members Chris Smith, Dean Strickland, Luke Williams, Paul Kear, Susan Williams, Dan Waldron and Nicola Gourlay, all of whom are from Bristol, came across was not happy.
“The first time we went we had in fact been meaning to got to a site in Wick but some couldn’t make it so we decided to go to Vassals Park instead,” said Andy.
Luke said: “We met in the car park and walked past the old mill and along the river. We have electromagnetic frequency detectors to sense anything and five minutes up the path it went full red, which is really unusual. I stopped and got my voice recorder out.
“Another member took a shot down the pathway and there was a figure standing there. It was a ‘wow’ moment.
“We then got to Halfpenny Bridge which is known for ghosts.
“At the time we thought the first apparition was just a one-off and we wouldn’t see anything else.”
But shortly afterwards the group was under attack.
“I leant down to tie my shoelace and a stone landed nearby,” Andy said.
“Two minutes later there was another one and it hit me on the arm. Then my friend was hit square in the chest.”
Chris added: “They started coming down bigger and bigger and one hit my friend very hard on the neck, so we just decided to get out of there.”
“We returned in full force the following week and went to see if people could have physically thrown stones down at us from above,” Luke said. “Not only would it be very hard because of the trees, it would almost impossible to be accurate.
“We also established it doesn’t like crucifixes. Any we left there would disappear. We hung one up on the bridge and it just took off into the air and we never saw it again.
“We also think there is a female spirit there, because there was a nice friendly feeling about it. And spirits that are knee-high, and chatter away.”
Andy, for one, will no longer return to Snuff Mills after feeling he was singled out on the last occasion.
“I won’t go there again because last time we were there it targeted me,” he said. “It had been taking things from our pockets and dropping them on us. We then twice heard a voice saying ‘going to die’.
“A stone hit my neck like it had been dropped on me and a big torch we had secured to the wall flew off and hit me in the back. Another member got pulled over backwards onto the bridge.
“We then twice heard a voice saying ‘going to die’. Normally we would carry on because there is so much evidence there but I was terrified and I had to know when to draw the line.
“When we finished our last session there people who saw us said like we looked like we had aged a year.
“I also thought I had a spirit come home with me. My wife said she heard somebody come in with me and heard them laughing with me.
“I heard doors opening and shutting in the night so I had to have a spiritualist to come in and cleanse the apartment.
Andy and his team have produced a 90 minute DVD entitled The Snuff Mills Halfpenny Bridge Documentary.

A SECRETIVE paranormal group claims parts of Bristol are under siege by ghostly apparitions – and they have the evidence to prove it.
Bristol Second Sight Paranormal Group (BSS) has been going for a year. Members spend hours at sites taking pictures and recording sound and video.
Member Andy Smart contacted the Bristol Post wanting to share the group’s experiences visiting Halfpenny Bridge at Snuff Mills in Vassals Park in Fishponds over the past two months.

Eighty people were stuck inside sweltering carriages for an hour after two monorail trains broke down. Two monorail trains stopped at 17:25 BST, leaving people trapped inside.
Last month, 16 people were hurt when the Smiler rollercoaster crashed into an empty carriage at the theme park.
Mirror.co.uk has also learned that two carriages collided on the Sonic Spinball ride on Tuesday.
Christine, who lives ain nearby Cannock Chase, told The Star: “I’ve looked at Alton Towers in the past and it’s definitely haunted, probably cursed too.
“There’s some clear poltergeist activity there.
“History shows us there were a lot of battles and deaths in the grounds."
The theme park was opened in the grounds of an stately home which once appeared on the TV show 'Most Haunted.'
In the episode, presenter Yvette Fielding, 46, was pelted with stones by a ghost who allegedly told them to “f*** off”, the Star reports.
Another ghostly spectre of a woman wearing a long dress is said to walk the grounds.
A spokesman for Alton Towers yesterday said it took an hour to walk 80 people off the monorail using the evacuation walkways, the park said.
"The train drivers kept guests informed via the on board PA system and refreshments were provided," an Alton Towers spokesman said.
Guests stuck on the Air ride were cleared "within standard operating procedures", according to park bosses. No injuries have been reported.
People waiting to go on the ride took to Twitter to say people had been left “stranded” on the Air rollercoaster.
The park had previously said it would introduce stricter safety procedures in the wake of the Smiler crash.
Two women, 20-year-old Vicky Balch and 17-year-old Leah Washington, underwent leg amputations following the crash on 2 June.

Couple call in ghostbuster and vicar after claiming demonic poltergeist molests them in their sleep.

A terrified family attacked in the night by a dreaded "incubus demon" have called a ghostbuster to get rid of the malevolent spirit.
In a story reminiscent of the film Paranormal Activity, the Fry family say they have been molested by an evil poltergeist for months.
Mum Tracey, 46, even says she is beaten up in the night by the phantom - leaving her covered with bruises in the morning.
In desperation her husband Keiron, 32, forked out £100 to a specialist to "cleanse" the house and has brought a vicar in to bless their cursed abode. The phantom, which has also been menacing the couple's three children, was summoned by a using a Ouija board in the house, they say.
That friend is no longer on speaking terms with the family.
Dad-of-three Keiron took a pic of the ghost in his sons' bedroom which he says shows a small child in a white gown with a blue face and a tail.
Keiron said: "We are being molested by demons.
"My wife goes to bed fine, doesn't feel anything in the night but when she wakes up she's in agony.
"I wake up the next day and said: 'I didn't do that. I would never beat my wife'.
The ghost has been terrorising the family at their three-bed terraced house in New Tredegar, South Wales, since Halloween last year.
Their cats have been left too frightened to go upstairs after the first floor was invaded by three ghosts including a dreaded incubus demon.
Keiron called a paranormal expert after the phantom told his children: "I'm going to slit your parents' throats".
His wife Tracy , who is a full-time carer, said: "It's getting worse and worse and there's nothing we can do.
"I wake up every morning in agony because of the demon.
"My husband rubs cream into my bruised back every day but the pain doesn't go away.
"We were told by the paranormal investigator that we have an incubus demon - the worst type of demon you can get.
"He told us we have three demons in total, the other two helped the main demon pin me down.
"It has affected our marriage because we have been rowing and fighting all the time about the demon.
It has been feeding off all the negative energy."
The family, who moved into their Housing Association property in July 2013, called in an investigator to tackle the spook.
Ghostbuster Robert Amour, 43, who charges £100 for a three-hour house "clearance", arrived at the house with a bible and crucifix.
He banned the petrified family from going upstairs after he shouted to them that he could "feel the evilness in the room."
After 20 minutes the psychic returned to the frightened family - claiming he had slain two small demons.
Mr Amour reportedly struggled with the third demon - who is still terrorising the helpless Fry family.
Church of Wales Vicar Johnathan Widdess has also visited the Frys to help them tackle the ghost.
He said: "He invited us there and we spoke about what was going on. We said a prayer to try and help him."
Stepson Nicholas Bush, 23, used the ouija board which summoned the ghoul - and is no longer on speaking terms with the Frys.

Police storm Lincolnshire Cafe and find a ghost.
Armed police storm cafe in search of thief - which turns out to be 'ghost'
Officers armed with Tasers were called by the concerned owner after he spotted a shadowy suspect moving around on his CCTV cameras.
Police officers stormed a cafe armed with Tasers after the owner spotted a burglar on CCTV.
But when the officers arrived at the premises it turned out the shadowy 'suspect' was a something a bit spookier.
Michael Bristow, 50, dialled 999 after he noticed a sinister dark figure sneaking around his coffee shop on his live camera feed.
Four officers armed with Tasers rushed to Larders Coffee House in Louth, Lincolnshire, at 10.30pm on June 24, but there was no burglar and no sign of a break-in.
After examining the eerie CCTV footage again, Mr Bristow is convinced his coffee shop must be haunted.
Mr Bristow, who has three grown-up children and one grandson, said: "The CCTV infrared sensors detected movement so something strange is going on.
"I've looked at it several times on a larger screen and there are dark figures in the room and strange movements.
"It appears to show an average height figure wearing a T-shirt walking out of shot and a ripple appears on the camera.
"When police arrived they found no burglar and no sign of a forced entry. Nothing was stolen and nothing was disturbed, the police told me it must have been a ghost.
"Some of the girls who work here have noticed strange goings-on before.
"The local ghost walk does come past the coffee shop and stop outside. I think customers don't want to come in after that.
"It is a very old building, one of the oldest in the town. It is a converted warehouse and still has some of its old features like the old winch inside."
Waitress Ceejay Liles, 21, has noticed numerous ghostly goings-on at the cafe in the two years she has worked there.
She said: "One of our regular customers took part in a ghost walk in town and the guy from the ghost walk stopped out here as well.
"I think Michael used to just think there was always another explanation for these things, but now I think he believes it - even if he might not admit it."
And Sarah Clapson, 29, has worked at the cafe for two years.
She said: "There was a time when Ceejay was upstairs sorting an afternoon tea out and I was busy downstairs, but then I saw a light on my radio - me and my colleagues heard a little girl's voice.
"I thought it must have been Ceejay so I radioed back to see what she wanted, but she said she'd never radioed me - it creeped us out.
"A few years ago, Michael's son was staying here one night and saw a little girl on the landing.
"I often sense things, especially upstairs or on the landing where the kitchen is."
A spokeswoman for Lincolnshire Police said: "The owner of the coffee shop reported seeing a blur on the CCTV.
"The place was extensively checked and there was no sign of a break-in or suspicious activity, so it has been classed as a false alarm.
"Looks like a ghost after all."

A house reported to be haunted by a poltergeist which lifted a woman out of her bed, has been listed for rent on Rightmove.
Potential tenants may have to share the house in Liverpool, with an unwanted guest after ‘significant paranormal activity’ was claimed by previous inhabitants - with one expert saying it is haunted by a poltergeist from the 1800s.
Situated in Pickwick Street, in Toxteth, potential tenants will need nerves of steel to arrange a viewing of the three-bedroom terraced property, the Liverpool Echo reports.
Social housing group, Plus Dane, who own the property, have confirmed reports of paranormal activity were first made in 2008 by the then residents.
On the market for £91 per week, anyone moving into the property will need to be aware of their potentially paranormal new roommates that they’ll share the house with - which an expert has described as a ‘violent spirit’ that previously lifted a former tenant out of her bed, and shook another house so much that the owner thought it was going to collapse.
Local paranormal expert Tom Slemen says that the ghost, known as the Pickwick Poltergeist, was first reported over 130 years ago.

He said: “There have been stories about a very unusual poltergeist on Pickwick Street that date back to the 1880s at least’ unusual in the fact that it seems to get around - most ghosts stick to haunting one property, but there are a rare few who flit from house to house, often in the same street, and the Pickwick Street Poltergeist is one of those.
“A landlady connected to the letting of Number 69, a Mrs Euphemia Nimlock, was also lifted out of her bed by the same violent spirit and, and another neighbour Ismael Jones (Number 70) was under the impression the house was going to collapse because of the vibrations.”
The listing describes the abode as: “3-bedroom terraced house in a popular location off Park Road, close to the Tesco Superstore. It has two singles and one double bedroom, rear yard, upstairs bathroom and two living rooms.”
But it then adds: “Please note previous tenants have advised us that they have experienced paranormal activity at the property.”
A spokesman for Plus Dane said: “Plus Dane received reports of unusual activity at this property in 2008 and worked with the tenant involved to look at ways in which we could help.
“We don’t get involved directly in instances such as this but we work to help, advise and support tenants if they are experiencing these issues and we take them very seriously.

A house reported to be haunted by a poltergeist which lifted a woman out of her bed, has been listed for rent on Rightmove.
Potential tenants may have to share the house in Liverpool, with an unwanted guest after ‘significant paranormal activity’ was claimed by previous inhabitants - with one expert saying it is haunted by a poltergeist from the 1800s.
Situated in Pickwick Street, in Toxteth, potential tenants will need nerves of steel to arrange a viewing of the three-bedroom terraced property, the Liverpool Echo reports.
Social housing group, Plus Dane, who own the property, have confirmed reports of paranormal activity were first made in 2008 by the then residents.
On the market for £91 per week, anyone moving into the property will need to be aware of their potentially paranormal new roommates that they’ll share the house with - which an expert has described as a ‘violent spirit’ that previously lifted a former tenant out of her bed, and shook another house so much that the owner thought it was going to collapse.
Local paranormal expert Tom Slemen says that the ghost, known as the Pickwick Poltergeist, was first reported over 130 years ago.

He said: “There have been stories about a very unusual poltergeist on Pickwick Street that date back to the 1880s at least’ unusual in the fact that it seems to get around - most ghosts stick to haunting one property, but there are a rare few who flit from house to house, often in the same street, and the Pickwick Street Poltergeist is one of those.
“A landlady connected to the letting of Number 69, a Mrs Euphemia Nimlock, was also lifted out of her bed by the same violent spirit and, and another neighbour Ismael Jones (Number 70) was under the impression the house was going to collapse because of the vibrations.”
The listing describes the abode as: “3-bedroom terraced house in a popular location off Park Road, close to the Tesco Superstore. It has two singles and one double bedroom, rear yard, upstairs bathroom and two living rooms.”
But it then adds: “Please note previous tenants have advised us that they have experienced paranormal activity at the property.”
A spokesman for Plus Dane said: “Plus Dane received reports of unusual activity at this property in 2008 and worked with the tenant involved to look at ways in which we could help.
“We don’t get involved directly in instances such as this but we work to help, advise and support tenants if they are experiencing these issues and we take them very seriously.
