The Ghosts of Alton Towers.

Most people will know Alton Towers as a place of fun and excitement, the 800 acre theme park is home to over 33 rides, roller coasters and water rides. But hidden away amongst these structures of fun is the derelict Gothic mansion for which the theme parks takes its name.

The Shrewsbury family have owned the building from 1412 when the Lady Ankarat de Verdun married Sir John Talbot and the title remained in the same family until the 1920’s. During its early life the house was called Alveton or Alton Lodge and was a summer residence for the Earl of Shrewsbury  and his family. During the early 1800's the 15th Earl Charles Talbot took an interest in the building and the land that surrounds it, he made great plans to expand and improve the gardens, the work was carried out over the coming years and by the time Charles Talbot dies in 1827 the mansion had already become one of the finest examples of gothic architecture in the land.

There are many reports of  ghosts and strange occurrences at the mansion and the surrounding area, one such occurrence happened in 1821, Charles Talbot the 15th Earl of Shrewsbury was returning back to the mansion one winters night, they had been making good time until his stagecoach was stopped by an old woman who was standing in the road blocking their path, angry at being delayed the Earl demanded to know what he woman was doing. The old woman explained that she was homeless, cold and hungry, when she asked for some money for shelter and food the Earl angrily rejected her request and told the woman to move out of the way so he could proceed on his way. The old woman then placed a curse on Charles and his family, she told him for every branch on the old oak tree that falls to the ground a member of the Earls family will die. The Earl dismissed the curse and carried on his way, that night a violent storm broke out and a branch fell from the oak tree, later that same night a member of the family became ill and mysteriously died.

This mysterious death made the Earl cautious and he began to think there may be more to this curse than he had previously thought, as a precaution he had the servants go out to the old oak tree and  have all the branches chained up so no others could ever fall to the fall.

The old oak tree still stands to this day and the branches are still chained up although over the years they have grown over the chains.

Other Haunting & Ghosts.

There have been many reports of a man dressed in black being seen walking around the grounds, he normally appears on dark moonless nights and when approached he disappears, There is another story connected to the house that may be the same gentleman but this time he appeared in the evening.  The story goes that one day a worker at the house was returning from the train station to the house, as the evening was turning to dusk he made his way through the wood and up the path that leads to the mansion grounds, he noticed a stranger up ahead looking down at him,  the worker described the gentleman as wearing a black cape with a white scarf and was carrying a silver tipped cane, the worker thought this an odd attire for someone to be wearing when out for a walk.

As he approached the stranger the worker tipped his cap and bid the gentleman a courteous "Good Night Sir"  but as the last word left his lips the strange gentleman vanished in front of him. Scared and confused the worker ran the rest of the way to the house and reported what he had experienced to the foreman, the foreman explained that he himself has seen the same ghostly figure on several occasions but when he had seen it, it was always accompanied by a black dog.

Could this be the same gentleman that has been seen walking the grounds?

The Music Room.

The music room is just one of the rooms within the derelict mansion where people have reported seeing ghosts or spirits. A large man has been witnessed on many occasions in this room and disembodied footsteps heard around the room are attributed to this gentleman. Music has also been heard coming from
this room but on inspection there is no one in the room and no instruments are kept there.

The Banqueting Hall.

Again there are reports of disembodied footsteps being heard around the Banqueting Hall, there are also reports of a dark shadowy figure being seen around the hall. People have reported seeing a woman dressed in a old style clothes standing in the doorway to the hall watching them.

The landing and corridors.

The landing area appears to be very active and there have been many unexplained sighting around this area of the house.

One of the most reported sightings at Alton Towers is that of  lady is a black dress, her apparition is often accompanied by a strong aroma of perfume.

One member of the staff was walking around the building inspecting the premises after the park had closed for the night, as she approached the top of the stairs she noticed a lady on the landing above her, thinking this was a member of the public who had not realised it was closing time she informed the lady that the park was now closed and that she must leave the grounds, the lady obliged by disappearing right in front of her eyes. The lady in the black dress has been seen around many different places in the mansion and she is thought to be the spirit of a governess who still thinks she is in charge of the mansion.

There has also been any reports of people outside the house seeing a lady looking out of the window on the landing, they report this because the building is locked up and no one is supposed to be in the building. on inspection no one can be found in the mansion. Also this lady has also been seen from the inside of the building, people have reported seeing a lady dressed in old style clothes standing at the window.

Children have also been heard running and laughing across the landing as if playing or chasing each other, but no children are around at the time.

There are many reports of sighting and occurrence all around the old derelict building, they range from people seeing the lady in a black dress or the shadowy figure in the banqueting hall to people reporting having stones thrown at them or people hearing music or talking when no one is near them.

In the daylight the building is a wonder to walk around, glory at the splendour of times past and marvel at the gardens. However at night once the park has closed and the thrill seeking public have gone home, after the park staff have completed their work for the day, the mansion takes on a much more eerie atmosphere.  Most of the building does not have electric power or gas lighting either, so moving around the mansion at night in the dark is done by torchlight only.

Having spent time on my own in most of the rooms around this building, sitting in the dark with my torch turned off, it is easy to understand why many people flee from this place in fear and many have refused to go back in.

Ghosts at Heathrow Airport.

Airports around the world are known for being amongst the busiest places to visit and Heathrow airport is no exception, with over 66 Million passengers a year passing through this airport it is surprising that anyone would notice a ghost amongst them.

However Heathrow has its spectral visitors, the first and most interesting is that of a man who is thought to have been a passenger on an ill fated flight from Brussels to London on March 2nd 1948. The Sabena Douglas DC3 Dakota OO-AWH took off from Evere Airport, Brussels at 1940 hours on a scheduled flight to London, visibility at Heathrow was down to 200 yards as fog hung over the area. The aircraft crash landed on  runway 2-8-Right killing all three crew members and 17 of the 22 passengers.

During the aftermath of the accident as Heathrow employees and emergency workers sifted through the wreckage trying to find survivors a group of men were taken by surprise when a man wearing a has emerged from the fog and asked them if they had found his briefcase, startled by this stranger the men just stared at him and to their amazement the gentleman just vanished in front of their eyes.  According to reports the emergency workers later reported finding the same gentleman's body amongst the tangled wreckage.

Since that terrible night in 1948 there have been many reports of sightings of a man wearing a hat being seen along the runway.

In 1970 there is a report of an incident on the runway at Heathrow which can not be explained, the radar office reported picking up a what they described as a person on the runway, the airport police were despatched to intercept the intruder and they were assisted by the airport fire department just in case any emergency, the radar office guided the police officers to the scene of the intruder but the police reported back as not being able to see anyone, the voice over the radio to the officer at the other end said that they must be able to see them as they had driven right over the person. They continued to search for the individual and the radar office continued to point them in the direction of the person they could see, but search as they might the officers on the runway could not find who ever it was. The search was eventually called off. Was this the same gentleman still searching the runway for his briefcase 22 years later?

There is also reports of another male spirit which keeps appearing at Heathrow airport, this time he frequents one of the VIP lounges.  This gentleman is reported to be in a grey suit and he simply materialize at odd moments before suddenly vanishing. Many people have said they have witnessed this apparition and many have said that he has appeared to them from the wait down only.
Another frequent visitor to the airport is one I am a little sceptical about, it is that of the notorious highwayman Dick Turpin. Through out his short life Dick Turpin was violent and cruel man who travelled the length and breath of England rustling cattle and holding up stagecoaches to rob it occupants of their belongings.
His luck ran out in 1739 when he was arrested while staying at an inn, on 22ns March 1979 he was tried and found guilty of two charges of horse theft and sentenced to death by hanging. The deed was carried out on 7th April 1739 thus bringing about the end of Dick Turpin's rein of terror.

However it appears that his death at the gallows in York in 1739 has not stopped Dick Turpin in his journey around England. There are many places around the country that report they are haunted by Dick Turpin, and this is why I am sceptical about many of them, spirits tend to haunt a location for a reason, maybe it is the location of a traumatic end like the gentleman on the runway or because they have some unfinished business they want to take car off or maybe because it was a location that held special memories for them during their living years.

It is very possible that Mr Turpin had dealings around the area that the airport now resides, even so there are many report of a man being seen appearing and just disappearing in the main terminal, he is reported to be dressed like a highwayman and wearing a tri-corn hat. Pilots, flight crew and staff at the airport have reported  hearing a man barking or howling but when they turn around there is nothing there, at other times they have reported feeling his presence behind them or feeling hot breath on their neck but no one is behind them.

So if you ever visit or fly in or out of Heathrow airport and you see a man standing on the runway looking lost and searching for something or you witness a man in a grey suit appear and vanish in the VIP lounge or even see a man dressed as a highwayman wandering around the main terminal, please let us know.

Curse of Tutankhamun or the work of Satanist killer?

During the 1920s and 1930s more than 20 people who were associated with the opening
of King Tutankhamen'sTomb in 1923 bizarrely died. The press at the time was filled
with speculation that these deaths were all partof an ancient Egyptian curse and this has
been a popular mystery ever since.

A new book now claims that these deaths were not an ancient Egyptian curse at all but
were in fact ritualistic killings masterminded by Aleister Crowley, an occultist dubbed
"the wickedest man in the world, who called himself 'The Great Beast'.

Enfield Poltergeist Voice Recordings.

On was a warm August night in 1977 life in the Hodgson household who lived at Green Street, Enfield
North London was about to change forever and for the worse.

The Enfield Poltergeist is one of the best known and best recorded experiences of poltergeist activity and possession, Janet Hodgeson who was only 11 at the time was the main centre of attention and would often speak for hours on end using her false vocal cords (which is believed to be medically impossible) while appearing to be possessed by another entity. When speaking with her false vocal cords Janet said she was "Bill" and that she had died in the house of  a brain haemorrhage, Bill continued to posses Janet time and time again and he habitually made jokes and exhibited a very nasty temper.

Here are some of the actual recordings made at the time by Maurice Grosse a member of the Society for Psychical Research who investigated the haunting.

Jack the Ripper: Is this six-inch knife used by Victorian serial killer?

A six-inch blade recently discovered could be the one used by Victorian serial killer Jack the Ripper, it has emerged.

It was found among possessions belonging to Welsh surgeon Sir John
Williams, a chief suspect in the Victorian murders.

Sir John, known to his family at the time of the killings as "Uncle Jack" was the
surgeon to Queen Victoria who lived in London at the time of the slayings.

He fled the capital after the murders and later founded the National Library for
Wales in Aberystwyth.

One of his distant relatives has now unearthed the old black-handled surgeon's
knife, which he used for operations, and believes it could be the murder weapon.

Tony Williams, 49, Sir John's great-great-great-great nephew, has now published
a book, which features the startling image of the knife, to expose his relative's guilt

Guy Gibson: ghost of Dambusters dog 'found' at airbase.

A team of paranormal investigators have claimed they have made contact with the "spirit" of the dog owned by Wing Commander Guy Gibson, the heroic pilot who led the Dambusters raids during the Second World War.

Wing Commander Gibson led the Dambusters raid in 1943 from his base at RAF
Scampton, near Lincoln, just hours after his black labrador, called Nigger, was run
over and killed.

Before taking off for the Ruhr Dams, Wing Commander Gibson left instructions for his faithful companion to be buried outside his office

But a legend sprung up around Nigger after there were several reported sightings of a black dog seen around the base following his death.

His office has been empty for more than half a century and is now part of the RAF Scampton Historical Museum, near Lincoln, Lincs.

Now paranormal investigators, given special permission to stake out the operational RAF base, have claimed that the spectre of the dog's spirit may have tried to speak to them as hey have picked up activity on their electronic detection equipment.

Haunted House in Coventry.

Early this year a story hit the news about a family living in Coventry that was being plagued by strange things happening in their house.

They reported that objects were moved, items like pots and pans were thrown across the kitchen, drawers being opened and the contents thrown out over the floor, window blinds going up and down on their own,  but these scary events took a more frightening turn when the family pet dog was pushed down the stairs and later died from the resulting injuries.

The family who is living at the house have been reported many strange things happening over the last 12 months, they have often had to flee the house terrified
as the events have scared them so much.

They set up a video camera in one of the bedroom that is the scene of a lot of activity in the house, the resulting recording is in their words proof that the "house is haunted".

As with so many of these recordings of ghosts, hauntings and paranormal activity the videos never appear to capture the whole object that is supposedly being moved by the spirit, thus leaving the viewer feeling that it could well be a setup. I find these videos very frustrating, I know the family were more concerned about capturing what was happening to them rather than proving ghosts are real but I have to feel the video evidence presented does not prove that the objects moving are doing so on their own and not being moved with the aid of a real person.

I will be carrying out further investigations into the happenings at this house and hope to be able to report my findings once done.

How I got into Investigating the Paranormal

The world of the Paranormal is a fascinating place and once people get involved it is very hard for them to walk away from it. I have for as long as I can remember been interest in all things unexplained, as a child I used to watch Arthur C Clarke's Mysterious World on the TV every week and it used to fascinate me so much.

When I was about 13 a strange incident happened to me that I have never been able to explain, although I can not say with all honesty that it was paranormal I have never been able to find the truth behind what happened, this just made me more and more interested in mysteries and the unexplained. Once I could drive I started visiting places that were supposed to be haunted and I started doing a small investigation on my own, I visited many battle sites around the UK, I would take a old Dictaphone recorder with me and I would walk around recording all the time I was there to see if I could pick anything up. Although I never really caught anything I could say was paranormal doing it this way it did teach me a lot on how to do research on the sites and put me in good stead from when I started doing group investigations.

I am not the type of person who on an investigation if something happens jumps up and says it must be a spirit or a ghost, although on investigations many strange and unexplainable things have happened, until I see a ghost I can not say they exist, what I try to do is investigate all possible natural causes for what ever it was we experienced and I would say about 70% of the time we can find natural causes for it, but that is not always the case and I would not say the 30% where we do not find natural causes are    caused by something paranormal.

Everyone is different and have different beliefs so what they experience may be different to what you and I experience, some people are more sensitive and are able to pick up on the spirits of those that have past, I am not one of these, I have never felt the presence of a spirit or felt that there is something there in any of the places I have investigated but I have still experience things I can not explain and many things happen on investigations for which I can find no natural cause.

It is something you have to try for yourself, most the people who come on an investigation say they are hooked and want to do more investigations. So why not give one a go, all you need is an open mind.

Welcome to UK Paranormal Events Blog.

We are a small but friendly group who love to investigate reputedly haunted locations.

We have visited many locations around the UK that have had reports of paranormal activity or reported sightings of ghosts and we investigate these site to see if we can shed any light on what is causing these sightings. Some we are sure we have been able to prove as none paranormal by finding normal everyday things that are causing people to think it is something paranormal, but others we have not been able to prove as non paranormal.

Although we have a team of investigators who take part in private investigation that we are asked to perform we also arrange public events that are advertised on our website for which tickets can be bought to attend and take part in investigating some of the UK most popular haunted buildings.

We provide all the up to date equipment for ghost haunting and training is provided on how to use this equipment, we are a professional company and treat every location we visit with respect and the same applies to the spirits that are reported to haunt the place.

The idea of this blog is to bring to you the latest reports of ghost and haunting's that are making the news and hitting the headlines from the UK and around the world.

From time to time we will also use this blog to update everyone on what the UKPE team is doing, we will let you know as much about what we have been investigating as we can although we are asked to keep a lot of the private investigation private. We will advertise our up and coming events and any other information we think people may be interesting in hearing about.
