FOR anyone missing their Christmas spirit – it looks like it’s been found in the mountains.

A ghostly apparition was spotted by a group of trekkers as they traipsed through the Chatyr-Dag mountain region, in Crimea, Southern Ukraine.

The spooky sceptre seemed to haunt a magical rainbow formed against the dramatic mountain backdrop.

But luckily for the explorers, the creepy figure turned out to be a phenomenon called the Brocken Spectre.

The clever illusion is created when low sun shines behind someone looking down into fog from a ridge.

Ukrainian snapper Mikhail Baevsky, had to trek up a whopping 1,200 metres – above cloud level — to get a glimpse of the sighting.

The 61-year-old university chemistry lecturer said: “As a scientist, I know the physics behind why this shape happens but because that day I saw this a few times it was as if I was being chased by a ghost!

“The beginning of the day was so cloudy that I just presumed that I wouldn’t be able to capture anything.

“We were tempted to turn back at 900 metres because it was so cloudy but I’m really glad we persevered and carried on heading up as at around 1,200 metres the fog started to clear otherwise I’d never have been able to see this.”

Ghostly apparition caught on camera at Perth tearoom hailed as best evidence of paranormal in 10 years.

A CAFE owner has called in the ghost-hunters after claiming to have seen a spirit on his security camera.

Chills went down Dan Clifford’s spine when he checked his CCTV and saw what he’s convinced was a ghostly apparition hovering over a table set for two.

He summoned a team of ghost specialists, who said the sighting – said to be a figure of a woman – was the most striking evidence they had come across in almost 10 years.

Dan, 35, said yesterday: “The first time I saw the shadow moving on the camera my heart went nuts. I thought there was an intruder in the shop.

“But when I looked closer I realised it couldn’t be a live human being – I could see right through it.”

The CCTV image was taken in the dead of night after something set off a motion sensor. And Dan claims it’s not the only evidence of ghostly goings-on at his Curiositeaz Vintage Tea Room in Perth.

He said: “Over the past few months, all the staff have experienced something.

“Some have heard voices. Others have witnessed chairs moving and one was pushed forwards and felt a chill right down their spine.

“We’ve also had a number of mediums stopping in because they felt something when they walked by.

“Some have told of feeling the presence of a woman, which fits with our newest image.

“I have always believed in the spirit world but I’d never experienced anything like this until we opened Curiositeaz less than a year ago. It’s all been very exciting.”

Dan has shown his CCTV images to ghost enthusiasts from Paranormal Investigation Scotland, and has talked to them about the other strange happenings at his cafe.

He has also fitted high-tech new cameras which takestill and moving images if sensors detect anything larger than a cat.

He said: “We are very interested to hear what the experts have to say about the recent sighting.

“We want to prove to any sceptics that we have not tampered with any images.”

A spokesman for Paranormal Investigation Scotland said: “This is the most convincing image we have seen in almost a decade, so we were keen to start looking into it.”

The experts will return to the cafe next month, with some of Scotland’s best-known mediums in tow. They’ll monitor the tea room overnight for signs of ghosts.

A grandmother was left astonished after a photo posted on Facebook from her granddaughter’s christening appeared to show the ghost of her late husband.

When Heather Sewell, 50, first saw the picture she immediately spotted the apparition, bearing a striking resemblance to her late husband Terry.

The black and white face can be seen above the church font hovering over baby Mia-Bella Kennett and the rest of the family






The bizarre image was caught on camera at St Martin’s Church, Canterbury, Kent by Mrs Sewell's son Jamie, 29, on his mobile phone.

It was only when the grandmother-of-two was looking through the photos online later that she spotted the familiar face beside the family.

Mrs Sewell, from Petham, Kent, said she could not believe the likeness to her late husband.

Terry Sewell, who worked as a labourer, died 17 years ago after committing suicide aged 41.

Mrs Sewell, who works as a taxi driver, said it was 'upsetting' to see her husband's face.

She said: ' I tried to convince myself that it was not Terry - but it is so convincing that I believe it is.

'Terry had a long face and so does the ghost and it has the same hair style as Terry had.

'The ghost is also the same height as Terry was - about 5ft 8in.

'I am quite a superstitious person, but I am not over-the-top.

'I do believe there is something out there - there are too many things in the world we cannot explain.'

She added: 'I was so shocked when I saw it, as we all were.

'It looks very much like Terry. I know there has been no photo trickery so it is all very spooky and perhaps not what you want to see at a christening.

'I was in the pub afterwards when I first saw the Facebook page and everyone was stunned because it’s so clear.'

St Martin’s is the oldest church in the country that is still in use for religious services, but a ghostly encounter has never been reported previously at the church.

Heather's daughter Gemma Sewell, 27, and her partner Jamie were joined by their older daughter Jaiden, 5, and two sets of godparents for Mia-Bella Kennett's Christening.

When Major John Tulloch retraced the steps of Allied prisoners of war and their infamous 'death march' from 1945, he thought his photographs would bare only a vague resemblance to the tortuous route PoWs took 70 years ago.

The retired army officer had revisited the muddy track in Borneo where thousands of World War Two PoWs trudged to their deaths, only to be given a shocking surprise when he looked back at his images.

Maj Tulloch studied his pictures and found what appeared to be hunched, skeletal ghostly figures marching across his photograph, almost exactly in line with the path they took seven decades ago.

The haunting image evokes strong memories of the desperate 'death march' made by Allied prisoners of war.

Some 2,400 World War II PoWs died in the horrific Sandakan Death Marches in 1945 to avoid them being liberated as Japan was forced on the retreat.

Severely malnourished and barefoot, they were forced by brutal Japanese captors to walk 160 miles in sweltering heat for a month.

Maj Tulloch took the picture from the window of a 4x4 vehicle while driving along the 'death march' route in 2010.

It is thought the astonishing photographic illusion was caused by a the reflection of a patterned towel which was on the dashboard of the vehicle as he took the image.

Maj Tulloch said he took the picture in 2010 when he did a recce of the route ahead of a
March of Remembrance and the unveiling of a memorial to the 400 members of the Royal Artillery who died.

Men who collapsed through exhaustion were left to die or were killed by being shot, bayoneted or beheaded.

Only six men survived the three marches from Sandakan to Ranau and that was because they managed to escape.

It was the single greatest atrocity against Australian troops.

Maj Tulloch, 66, said: 'We were driving along the same track as that taken by the death march and I was clicking away on my camera, I took about 200-odd digital photographs.

'I went through the pictures on a computer screen later and didn’t see it the first time round. I went back over them again and I just suddenly thought "what the hell...?"

'I looked at the photo again and went very cold indeed. What I saw were the shapes of 17 or 18 ghostly figures coming out of the jungle and walking down the track going to Ranau which you can see in the far distance.

'It took me a few moments to work out how it had occurred but it was too weird for words. I showed it to several people and they said it is quite extraordinary, some even refused to look at it because it was so haunting.

'While my guide drove along he put a towel on the dashboard. The towel had a pattern on it and that reflected through the windscreen. I have called it reflections of a death march.'

Maj Tulloch is now an instructor in jungle warfare for the Royal Artillery.

Hunt launched for ghostly, grey lady.

 

SIGHTINGS of a ghostly lady dressed in grey have failed to spook hardy pub regulars.

In fact, they are so keen to prove the historic watering hole is haunted that they are inviting people to join them on an official ghost hunt on Saturday.

Starting at 11.30pm and finishing at 3.30am, the hunt hopes to unveil a host of paranormal activities at the Lowndes Arms in Whaddon.

Already landlord and landlady Jeff and Suzy Chandler are convinced they have at least one resident spook.

“My husband has seen a ghostly image of a lady dressed in grey on three occasions,” said Suzy.

More worryingly, the pub chef witnessed a large chopping knife lift itself off the kitchen worktop and throw itself across the kitchen, she added.

“The chef is constantly complaining of ‘mischief’ in the kitchen whereby items disappear then mysteriously reappear.”

Staff have also heard footsteps upstairs when nobody was there and a barman saw a door handle move and the door rattle when he was alone in the 17th century building.

 The Chandlers, who bought the pub last year, have already called in an expert spiritualist medium.

The medium, who used high tech cameras and vibration meters, claimed he found ‘high levels’ of paranormal activity.

He reported: ‘Spiritual activity ranged from hearing footsteps of a wooden floor – the corridors were carpeted – hearing whistles, feelings of dread and despair and huge temperature drops’.

A GHOST that is a distant relative of American presidential candidate Mitt Romney is believed to be haunting a newly-refurbished pub.

The mischievous spirit of Agnes Romney has been sighted by staff at Romneys, in Kendal, and has knocked drinking glasses off tables, opened drawers and closed doors.

Her brother is believed to be the great great grandfather of the Mitt Romney, the Republican Party nominee running against Barack Obama.

She was also the first cousin, once removed, of the famous Kendal painter George Romney.

Assistant manager Hennie Kuger, of Kendal, said he had seen the early 19th century ghoul in window reflections and believed she was ‘hanging around her old home’

The 32-year-old thought sightings of Agnes would end once renovation work at the hostelry on Milnthorpe Road was completed but she ‘keeps making her presence known’. 

“I came to England in 2002 and worked here when it was the Kendal Arms,” he said.

“That’s when I first heard stories about Agnes. I’ve never been a believer in ghosts myself but one evening when I was having my meal upstairs in the function room I saw a reflection of an old woman in the window “It was dark outside and in the reflection she looked like a little lady, a bit like my grandma.

“When I looked behind me there was no one there. Agnes used to live up in the top of the building with her sister.”

Mr Kuger said other staff had also reported mysterious goings on at Romneys. He added: “Quite often, late at night, we hear footsteps and sometimes you hear creaking.

“Glasses just fall off the shelf. Once, we filled a bin to prop a door open and when we came back to it the bucket had moved and the door was shut. She also opens drawers.

“I think she’s just hanging around in her old house.”

Martin Orrom, of the Romney Society, said Agnes’ links with the Kendal pub were unclear, as was much of her life.

He said: “I can’t see any link between her and the house in Kendal, although George Romney’s house, where he lived after retirement, is quite close on Milnthorpe Road.”

Cruise ship ghost 'caught on camera

 

A MYSTERIOUS woman floats at the end of a corridor - in a photo said to depict the ghostly inhabitant of a famous cruise ship.

Spook hunter Valentina Lomborg is convinced her snapshot features the Lady in White, who has 'haunted' the Queen Mary for more than half a century

The ship was once a luxury liner, ferrying the rich and famous between London, Southampton and New York.

Retired in 1967 it's now a hotel, moored in Long Beach, Californa.

As well as a regular influx of paying guests, the hotel is rumoured to be home to a string of phantoms - including a Lady in White, who can sometimes be seen dancing in what was once the first class lounge.

Dane Valentina, a former model, checked into the floating hotel to search for the ship's spooky squatters - and she was stunned by what she discovered.

While onboard, the glamorous ghost hunter felt compelled to start taking photographs. When she later studied the snaps, she spotted the ghostly figure standing in a doorway.

Valentina said: "She wasn't visible to the naked eye. It was only when I got home and looked at the photos I picked it up.

"It could only be the Lady in White. She is often seen by workers, but as far as I'm aware nobody has captured her on camera in this kind of detail."

The Queen Mary's other ghostly inhabitants are said to include an 18-year-old engineer who was killed during a fire drill, a young girl who drowned in a swimming pool and a young woman who was murdered in a changing room.
