JENNY Lavender awoke with a start, snapped from a deep sleep by someone, or
something, pressing hard on her legs.

She looked down, her breath turning to smoke in the icy room, and saw the covers
move, as if a child was silently walking over the bed.

The click of footsteps on the wooden floor made the 27-year-old sit upright, fear
etched on her face.

The giggles and whispers of children filled the air, causing Jenny to leap from
her bed. She clearly heard a lisping command of ‘hide’ before racing for the door.

Jenny, for better or worse, had made contact with one of the many ghosts that go
bump in the night at Hockley’s Red Lion pub.

“She was absolutely terrified,” said landlord, and Jenny’s partner, Dave Lewis,
“and convinced there was no logical explanation. She’s never been in the pub since”.

“Plenty have had very strange encounters at our pub,” added the 32-year-old, “but
Jenny’s was something else. I’ve never seen anything during my two years here.
Perhaps the spirits don’t like me.”

There’s a resident ghostly centurion soldier, who possibly wandered from nearby
Icknield Street Roman road, and an elegant lady in long gown and high collar
who strolls from kitchen to staff bedroom.

Regular Terry Oliver has had more than his share of spooky encounters at the
100-year-old watering hole.

Electrician Terry vividly remembers the moment he and two colleagues were working
to re-wire the pub cellar.

They downed tools when the apparition of a man in brown work coat and cloth cap
appeared in a corner.

They later learnt a drayman had been crushed on the exact spot, an 108 gallon barrel
pinning him to the floor.

The pub, which has more spirits than most, is featured in city ghost walks organised
by Michael Reddy and Ian Braisby.

Michael said there’s a good reason why the Red Lion has so many dead regulars.

“I think it’s down to work practises in the Jewellery Quarter going back in time,
” he said.

“Health and Safety was never a big thing, so, for example, you have the story of the
drayman squashed in the cellar. We talk about binge drinking today, but the
Victorians were quite partial to a tipple.”

Evidence of ghostly goings-on at the pub are compelling, added Michael.

“With the cellar incident, you have three people who stopped at the same time and
said, ‘did you see him?’.

Why would those three people all give exactly the same account – they had nothing to
gain from it?

Spooky sighting sparks investigation

PARANORMAL investigators are to look into spooky sightings of a ghostly child
pulling a cartnear Carew.

The spooktacular sight was spotted on the A477. The witness told the Western
Telegraph: “Has anyone else seen a ghost of a young boy pulling a wooden cart
which is too large to be a toy?

“I saw him running across the road very quickly and when I arrived at the point
where he would have been, there was no sign of him.

“There were just very thick gorse bushes and there is no way he could have
disappeared intothese. I arrived there in seconds.

There was no sign of him.”

The sighting has now been passed on to Pembrokeshire Beyond, who investigate
ghostly going-on.

Co-founder Shaun Sables said: “Carew is a fascinating place. We have had many
reports of a variety of different sightings and experiences from people living and
visiting the area".

“From memory this is the first report of a boy pulling a cart that I have heard of".

“It’s hard for us to say what the cause of this is without more specifics and further
description ofthe sighting, though it may well be paranormal.”

Derek Acorah has rid a family of their terrifying ghosts.

TV psychic Derek Acorah banishes evil spooks for haunted mum-of-six.

Marie Williams, 34, and her six kids had been dogged by increasingly alarming incidents
since moving to their Victorian home in Sunderland last February.

The family were taunted with eerie sights and sounds and the spirits even ATTACKED
Marie and RANSACKED a bedroom.

Her kids were so scared that one slept in the living room while others would only go
upstairs in pairs.

A fed-up Marie appealed for help in The Sun last week — and ghost guru Derek, best
 known for telly's Most Haunted, stepped in.

I joined Derek as he performed an hour-long "invocation"
ceremony — and personally witnessed the inexplicable.

Marie explained that six weeks after moving in she
would hear someone climbing the stairs then
"thunder" back down them — but no one was there.

Then a man would appear in the hallway and a ghostly little girl would run towards the
stairs then disappear.

She says: "One night we were in the dining room and there was an almighty crash from
upstairs.

"My 18-month-old Harvey's room was turned completely upside down — chests of
drawers, wardrobe, things on the wall, everything was on the floor."

"On another occasion I felt this burning sensation and ran to the mirror." There was a
2in red scratch on her neck.

Derek, 62, revealed: "Someone on this street has used a ouija board-like instrument to
open the portal to the other side. That allows spirits to come to the house."

Derek sealed off the front and back doors plus a portal he located in the living room. He
sprinkled rock salt at each site, which he says spirits cannot cross, and crystals to bring
purity.

A candle was placed at each door as Derek and Marie joined hands to say the "prayer of
invocation".

But the spirits were not giving up easily. One nipped Marie's legs, while a candle at the
back door was inexplicably thrown into the garden, its glass holder smashed.

I witnessed this myself and cannot think of any rational explanation.

Afterwards, a relieved Marie said: "I feel like a weight has been lifted."

Spring Heeled Jack is Back.

Paranormal experts and monster hunters have been queuing up to give their interpretation of a mysterious "dark figure with no features" spotted in Ewell last month.

Scott Martin and his family were travelling home by taxi on Tuesday, February 14, at about 10.30pm when they saw the terrifying figure they have likened to the legendary Spring Heeled Jack dart across the road before leaping 15ft over a bank as they approached Nescot College on the Ewell bypass.

The couple, an accountant and a manager of a building company from Banstead, their four year old son and the taxi driver all reported seeing the same figure.

So spooked were the family that their son was too scared to sleep on his own that night while the taxi driver admitted he didn’t want to drive back alone.

Theories put forward to explain the apparition include the road being haunted, natural scientific phenomena and even that it was an alien life form.

Jack Bowman, 32, writer and director with the Wireless Theatre Company who produced a three part radio series on the legend of Spring Heeled Jack, said: "What absolutely intrigues me about this is that Spring Heeled Jack hasn’t been seen since 1986.

"He’s pretty much been forgotten but here in 2012 he is being talked about again. I don’t for a second doubt that the family was terrified or what they had seen.

"He’s probably a physical phenomenon. He was witnessed by two people, a child and a taxi driver so he’s something physical which rules out any ghosts.

"A scientific explanation might be that he was an extra terrestrial entity for example and possibly an alien.
"If he came from somewhere with greater gravitational pull he would be able to jump higher."

Neil Arnold, 37, a self proclaimed full time monster hunter and author who has been investigating strange phenomena for 20 years, said: "I don’t think that what they saw has got anything to do with Spring Heeled Jack
"He began life around 1837 pretty much around Kent, London and Surrey and basically attacked people.
"He dressed in very dark garb and a black coat. They said he used to spit blue flames in people eyes. Most of the time he would attack women, rip their clothes off and then run off.

"About three of four years ago I got a report of a woman driving when a dark figure walked across the road and she crashed her car to avoid it. I spoke to her and she was absolutely terrified. So witnesses are clearly seeing something.

"The trouble is that stuff happens all the time and it never gets explained.

"I would say if this was a normal person, something which seems unlikely, then we are probably dealing with a haunted road or road apparition of some sort.

"People used to say Spring Heeled Jack was an alien or a ghost. I’m not sure but I think he could have been a prankster which got out of control."

One reader said: "The theory was that SHJack was an alien from a heavy gravity planet. No explanation in either case of how he got here.

"Possibly the planet he is from regards him as a criminal and he's sent here because he is as insane as we are.
"With only one of his kind here it would be a kind of hell."

Ghostly activity disrupt Horror movie in Birmingham house..

POLTERGEISTS and psychic investigators have been spotted in a historical Birmingham house.

But would-be visitors to Rookery House in Erdington can relax a little – the spooky guests were part of a spine-chilling movie filmed at the council property.

The cast and crew, however, have warned that they DID experience some mysterious goings on while they worked in the 18th century venue.

The Casebook of Eddie Brewer stars Ian Brooker, famous as the voice of Wayne Foley in The Archers, and Hollywood stalwart Peter Wight who has previously starred alongside A

listers including Brad Pitt, Keira Knightley and Cate Blanchett in hit films like Pride and Prejudice, Babel and Hot Fuzz.

It was shot entirely in Brum.

But the creepy scenes featured in the movie weren’t all created by the scriptwriter.

Filming was interrupted by bizarre experiences during the shoot at Rookery House.

Director Andy Spencer said: “It was a superb location and evoked just the right chilling atmosphere that was needed in the story. We even had our own brush with the paranormal during the shoot.

“One of the actresses went to the only toilet, which was upstairs, while everyone else was in the green room. We heard her screaming, and telling us to cut it out, but no-one had left and there was no-one else in the building.

“She had heard someone creeping around outside the toilet door, and when we explained that it couldn’t have been any of us, she was quite shaken by it.

“We were shooting another scene upstairs while the rest of the crew were downstairs in a kitchen.

“I actually had to call ‘Cut!’ because the sound of footsteps outside in the corridor was so loud.

“We went outside to check, but there was no-one there, and everyone else was still on the other side of the building so couldn’t possibly have been there.

“After that, one of the security guards refused to go in there at night, so there was certainly a creepy atmosphere that we all felt.”

The film follows a fictional TV documentary crew from the Culture Channel joining old-school paranormal investigator, Eddie Brewer, in an investigation into his baffling cases.

He looks into a possible poltergeist when a child is possessed by the spirit of a 19th century clown, and investigates strange noises and electrical surges at an 18th century listed council building.

Mr Spencer described Rookery House, as “one of the stars of the film”.

Ian Brooker, 52, from Sutton Coldfield, plays the title role in the new movie.

“I’ve always had a fascination with the paranormal, so to play an investigator in this film has been a very rewarding experience,” he explained.

“I used to watch a lot of paranormal series on the BBC from about the age of 10. TV is really missing those old-fashioned mystery paranormal shows. It’s all CSI and special effects at the moment.

“We’re trying to create that sense of mystery with this film. It’s not a slasher horror. It does have a few scares but it’s all about building suspense.

“You don’t have to spend big money and use special effects to create atmosphere and drama.”

Ghostly former landlord spotted at Birmingham's Trocadero pub.


ONE of Birmingham’s best known boozers is having a spot of bother with a former landlord.

Henry Skinner knocks over glasses, flings beer mats and even throws loose change – much to
the annoyance of staff at Temple Street’s Trocadero.

They’d ban him, but need help from a priest. That’s because Henry was murdered in the watering hole 116 years ago.

And in the centenary year of the pub being christened the Trocadero, Henry has stepped up his anti-social behaviour.

He’s not a man to mess with.

Henry served in the military before taking over at the watering hole which was then named the Bodega, an upmarket winebar that was a famous haunt of thespians and sportsmen.

The burly publican was well-known in the city and ran a popular boxing academy.

But on December 5, 1895, he made the mistake of crossing brothers Herbert and Arthur Allen.

Arthur worked at the pub but was sacked on the spot and a furious row over wages erupted. In a fit of rage his brother, grabbed a gun and blasted the landlord.

The Birmingham Gazette reported dramatically: “The bulldog pattern bullet, quite capable of felling an ox, buried itself in the wainscoting. Skinner turned back towards the noise and the next shot caught
him in the side of the chest as he turned.”

Henry is one of a number of spooks said to wander the building, which became a drinking house in 1883.

Two girls who fell to their deaths on a spiral staircase also make an occasional appearance.

The wafting smell of burning wood is also believed to be a ghostly reminder of the building’s previous
use as a fire station.

Meanwhile, social network site Youtube features a number of clips of scared Trocadero regulars
enduring strange lights and noises.

Current manager Pete Yeomans admitted the only spirits he has seen have been on the top shelf.

But the 30-year-old added: “A previous manager saw a ghostly gentleman and she felt she always
had to say hello and goodbye to Henry.”

Yet his partner Kayleigh Thomas, who has worked at the Trocadero since 2006, has encountered
Henry on a number of occasions. She said: “He’s a friendly ghost.

“I’ve never seen him, but I’ve heard him many times. He tends to knock over glasses and leave
things out. You’ll open up and find some very strange things have been placed on tables, such as clocks.

“But his party piece is making the money in fruit machines rattle. That can be a bit un-nerving when you’re
the only one in the room.”

The 25-year-old added: “I’ve worked in a number of ‘haunted’ pubs, but the Trocadero has the most activity, definitely.”

Michael Reddy, who runs ghost walks through the city, said the Trocadero ticks all boxes when it comes to
hauntings. “It has a significant number of ghosts in there, that’s the difference with it,’’ he said.

“There’s also the exterior of the place, with tiles from the late 1800s. It’s a fascinating building and an
important part of our heritage.”
