Chilling 'ghost' video reveals head of a long-dead saint hovering in mid-air.
Footage claims to show the spirit of Saint Oliver Plunkett who was put to death in London in
1681
Tourists are flocking to a church after reports that the ghost of a long-dead saint has been
spotted.
There have been reports that the spirit of Saint Oliver Plunkett has been seen in St Peter’s
parish church in the centre of Drogheda, Co Louth.
A video which claims to show the head of the martyred saint hovering in mid-air has become
a sensation on YouTube.
It was shot just a few metres from a glass case which contains the actual head of the saint
who was put to death in London in 1681.
St Oliver suffered a shocking death when he was hanged, drawn and quartered in front of a
huge crowd because he would not give up his faith.
After a rigged trial he was the last Catholi martyr to die in England.
Along with his mummified head the door of the prison cell which held him in London are in
the church on West Street, Drogheda.
It was while filming the cell door that the saint’s head appeared.
Author Vikki Bramshaw said she only discovered the image of St Oliver peering out of the
prison door when she viewed the video taken with her mobile phone when she got home.
She said: ““I don’t really believe in ghosts or anything like that, so I was a bit spooked out to
see it when I was checking my video when I got home.
“I was just filming the cell door with my camera phone, and didn’t notice anything unusual at
the time, but when I checked it that night, I was definitely a bit spooked by what I saw.”
The YouTube footage appears to show a face that appears at the small hatch in the door a
number of times.
A local women who prays almost daily at the church said she feels the presence of St Oliver
but is not in not scared.
She said: “What would I be scared of? The head is scarier than any ghost.”
St Oliver was beatified in 1920 and canonised in 1975.
Every year thousands of thousands of pilgrims and visitors visit St Peter’s to see and
photograph the relics of St Oliver.

San Antonio TX hair salon calls in Paranormal Investigator.
Paranormal investigator visits local salon.
By: Erin Nichols - It's a local beauty salon and spa known for its welcoming atmosphere, but
over the years employees have been experiencing a most unwelcome presence.
“I was working late one night and I ended up having to close the salon,” said stylist Victoria
Mireles. “I was fine, but then after my guest left I was like ‘oh no. I’m here alone!’”
According to Mireles and other employees, the salon is haunted.
The owner asked us not to name the salon, but said it was converted from an old house
where the previous owner died.
And rumor has it, the salon was built on grounds where a saloon once stood.
“Even though it's not harmful it's still a little freaky,” said Mireles.
Mireles experienced her first creepy encounter during a group meeting.
“We heard like moving furniture up on the ceiling, like people walking, but on top of us
is just roof,” said Mireles.
One of the team members felt something bite her, and Mireles felt someone tickle her
back.
“We knew something else was here with us,” she said.
Employees and customers claim they’ve noticed other strange phenomenon over the years
including doors opening by themselves and hearing voices.
To find out more about the creepy experiences, the owner hired paranormal investigator Jason McLeod.
Mcleod has been investigating hauntings and other strange incidents since he was in college
and claims he's gifted with being able to detect the supernatural.
“I just pick up emotion and pick up names and information,” said McLeod.
He also claims to help trapped spirits cross over.
“Most spirits are spirits of human beings who once animated their bodies and have left their
bodies,” said McLeod. “They’re in a free state, but then there are other spirits who are dark
and dangerous.”
Jason begins his investigation by going through the salon.
He said he sensed three female spirits in the upstairs portion of the spa, which he believed were
once prostitutes when the salon was allegedly a salon.
In another room, he sensed a male spirit and something darker.
“Definitely something dirty was going on here,” said McLeod. “I’m getting this person was a mortician.”
Mcleod then held a séance with his team to help the spirits cross over.
When it ended, Mireles said she immediately noticed a change.
“It’s just like a calm feeling,” said Mireles.
Mcleod was confident the salon was purged of all lost souls, and advises that if you suspect
your home or business is haunted, treat those spirits with respect.
“These are beings just like you or I who need help desperately,” said McLeod.

The Black Country is being invaded by witches and ghosts.
Is there a Black Country Triangle? West Midlands Police receive scores of 999 calls in three years reporting sightings of witches, zombies and ghosts.
West Midlands Police have received 71 reports of witches ghosts and zombies over a three year period - however the Black Country is officially werewolf-free.
Between 2011 and 2013, the force was obliged to investigate reports of paranormal activity in what has now been dubbed The Black Country Triangle.
According to Nick Duffy of the West Midlands' Ghost Club, much of this upsurge is probably due to poor quality American television shows dealing with the paranormal.
According to figures released under the Freedom of Information Act, West Midlands Police have received 15 reports of ghosts, 55 incidents of witchcraft and a pair of zombies roaming the area over a three year period.
The paranormal researcher asked for the number of reports of ghosts, werewolves, witches and zombies over the past three calendar years received by West Midlands Police.
The unnamed person wanted to know especially 'any other details included in the calls? ie seven werewolves attacking people' and what action was taken by police.
According to the FOI document: 'The reports include ghost, zombie and witch sightings, hearing and communicating with the aforementioned, the use of witchcraft, claims to be a witch and witch hunters. I have not included terms such as "she called me a witch", "he was in a zombie-like state".'
However, according to the figures, 2013 featured record complaints of incidents involving ghosts and witches and worryingly the first two reports of zombies in the region. No reports of werewolves activity were made by the region's 2.8 million population.
The paranormal reports were spread across Birmingham, Coventry, Dudley, Solihull, Sadwell, Walsall and Wolverhampton.
Mr Duffy said: 'I am very surprised by the number of reports of witchcraft. I guess that is down to the popularity of TV shows such as Charmed.
'We set up the West Midlands Ghost Club in 1989 and we have received thousands of reports of paranormal activity. It is fair to say that there is a Black Country Triangle.
'We investigate each case on its own individual merits. It may seem surprising but we do not go to a house to either prove or disprove the presence of a ghost or spirit. There are charlatans out there who arrive with psychics who claim they can talk to the spirits or the little boy who had been murdered in the corner, but that is utter bunkum.
'Our job is simply to reassure people who are facing a problem. In may cases, it doesn't really matter if a house is haunted or not, if the person is convinced and they are in danger, then they will want to move.'
Mr Duffy said he received one report of a werewolf in Solihull.
He added: 'She was convinced a werewolf was feeding in her bins but it turned out to be a dog. We have had other cases of people convinced they could hear voices and they've turned out to be the neighbours.'
Force spokesman, Billy Corrigan, said: 'Our officers routinely see the consequences of spirits when things go bump... but that tends to be of a night when the pubs have closed their doors and we’re making sure people get home safely.
'While the figures can seem amusing, behind some of these "supernatural" calls may be a deeply troubled individual or a person wasting valuable police time which would be better spent preventing real crimes.
'West Midlands Police always take action against those found to be knowingly making false and malicious calls to the emergency services.'

Engalnd Cricket Team Spooked by Hotels Ghosts.
England spooked both on and off the field as Ben Stokes and Stuart Broad struggle to sleep because of Langham Hotel's GHOSTS.
England's players have had plenty of excuses to lose sleep through their woeful on-field displays in recent months but paranormal activity in their hotel bedrooms is surely taking things to an extreme.
While the ghost of ousted Kevin Pietersen may be haunting the power-brokers at the ECB, it has emerged that the current team are convinced their five-star central London hotel is haunted, causing several stars to have difficulty sleeping at night.
Sportsmail has learned that a number of players have requested to move rooms, while some wives and girlfriends have refused to stay at the world-renowned Langham Hotel during London Test matches this summer after complaints of mysterious goings-on at night.
‘During the Sri Lanka Test I had to move rooms,’ said fast bowler Stuart Broad.
‘It was so hot in the room I just couldn’t sleep. All of a sudden the taps in the bathroom came on for no reason. I turned the lights on and the taps turned themselves off. Then when I turned the lights off again the taps came on. It was very weird.
‘It really freaked me out. I ended up asking to move rooms. Bealey (Broad’s girlfriend) was pretty spooked, too, and I know Moeen Ali’s other half won’t stay there because she’s so frightened of the ghosts.
‘Ben Stokes has had some problems sleeping as well. He’s on the third floor, which is where a lot of the issues are. I’m telling you, something weird is going on.’
The Langham Hotel - renowned as one of the finest in London - was opened in 1865 by The Prince of Wales and subsequently frequented by the cream of Victorian society including literary luminaries such as Sherlock Holmes creator Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and Oscar Wilde.
But it has also been reported that as many as seven ghosts have been seen stalking the corridors and bedrooms - including a German doctor who reportedly murdered his wife while on honeymoon at the hotel before committing suicide and a soldier who committed suicide by throwing himself off a balcony.
Room 333 is believed to be the most haunted room with the hotel’s own website stating: ‘In 1973 a BBC radio announcer James Alexander-Gordon awoke suddenly in the night to see a fluorescent ball which slowly took on the shape of a man wearing Victorian evening wear. The announcer asked the ghost what it wanted and it began to float towards him, with its legs cut off some two feet below the ground, arms outstretched, eyes staring emptily. At this point the announcer got up and fled.’
The hotel’s history has clearly affected Alastair Cook’s men, too, with some of the most senior players in the team convinced the hotel is haunted.
‘I’ve slept okay during the current Test (against India) but the Sri Lanka Test (last month) was not great,’ added Broad. ‘One night I woke up in the middle of the night, around 1.30am and I was convinced there was a presence in the room. It was the weirdest feeling.
‘I turned the light on and looked online and could see Matt Prior was online, too. I went to his room and he said exactly the same thing! He was wide awake as well. Neither of us could sleep because we were so spooked out.
‘Matt was in a twin room so I ended up sharing with him. I don’t know if it’s because we’re talking about it more that we sensing more is going on but it’s weird. It’s definitely caused a few sleepless nights.’
The hotel declined to comment.
It is not the first time Test cricketers have been spooked, with Australia all-rounder Shane Watson famously having to share a room with team-mate Brett Lee in 2005 because he was scared of ghostly goings on at Lumley Castle Hotel near Durham.

Second sighting this year at the Ye Olde Man and Scythe
Is this Britain's oldest and most haunted pub? New footage reveals flickering 'ghost' at window of 763-year-old Ye Olde Man and Scythe.
A bar in Bolton has renewed its claim to be 'Britain's most haunted pub' after new footage emerged of a 'ghost' appearing at an upstairs window.
Tony Dooley, who runs Ye Olde Man and Scythe in Greater Manchester, feared his premises were haunted earlier this year when CCTV appeared to show a ghostly figure standing at his bar during the night.
He now says he's been left in no doubt that there are ghosts in the pub after another video, apparently shot by a tourist, emerged showing a second apparition.
The latest video is believed to have been filmed by a Portuguese visitor to the area who was talking about the original incident, which happened at the 763-year-old pub earlier this year.
As he describes the pub's 'haunted' history, a strange flickering light appears at an upstairs window.
Manager Mr Dooley, 36, says the footage has left him certain that he is living among ghosts.
He said: 'I'm not too happy about it. That's my flat behind the window. My attitude before I became the manager nine months ago was not to believe in ghosts. I'm convinced now.'
He also claims that, a few weeks ago, he was woken by what he thought was his partner's pet dog, Kallie, licking his feet, but he looked over to discover the animal was asleep.
He added: 'My feet were clammy and wet, like sweaty palms only worse. I went straight to the bathroom and took a shower with the dog in the room making sure nothing else happened.'
He said: 'It was creepy, but my attitude is as long the ghost doesn't harm me then that's fine.'
In February, Mr Dooley investigated smashing glass in the bar area overnight and saw a 'figure' appear on CCTV footage.
It is claimed the pub, the fourth-oldest in Britain, is haunted by the ghost of James Stanley, the seventh Earl of Derby and royalist.
It is believed he spent the last hours of his life at the inn before he was beheaded in 1651 in the final months of the English Civil War.
Hundreds of soldiers and civilians were also killed outside the pub, which dates from 1251, during the Bolton Massacre in 1644.

More and more people opting to buy haunted properties
Hot on the Real Estate Market: Buyers Dying to Live in Haunted Houses.
If you think haunted houses are impossible to sell, then you’re in for the fright of your life.
"There are buyers out there that think it’s cool to own a home that may have ghosts,” real estate agent Cindi Hagley told ABC News’ “20/20.”
Based in California, Hagley runs Past Life Homes, specializing in the selling of so-called “stigmatized properties,” and that includes haunted houses.
“Right now we are in a seller’s market in almost all of northern California,” Hagley said. “You can have a dead body swinging from the chandelier, and I’m still going to have ten offers on the phone.”
Hagley said plenty of houses for sale come with supposed tenants of the supernatural type, who have allegedly lived there for hundreds of years. In some states including California, realtors are required by law to tell buyers if a home purportedly has ghostly inhabitants.
Even after telling potential buyers that the house is haunted, Hagley said many are still interested.
“Some don’t care. Some expect a huge discount,” said Hagley.
A Realtor.com survey found that 62 percent of Americans would consider buying a haunted house, while 35 percent think they’ve lived in a haunted house.
John Gochá told “20/20” that his home is haunted.
“I know it’s haunted,” Gochá said. “I see ghosts here on a pretty much weekly basis.”
His Los Angeles house, which was featured in the Emmy-winning TV show, “American Horror Story,” is currently for sale.
“Every time I go by the laundry room with the washing machine on I hear conversations, people having conversations clear as day,” said Gochá.
While Gochá finds the ghosts in his home friendly, Hagley said she has a team of paranormal investigators for when a house she is selling is haunted.
“It’s not like on TV where you see, you know, these alleged Ghostbusters calling these ghosts out,” Hagley said. “We’re gentle in our approach.”
When the home buyers want the spirits to leave, Hagley has her medium, Mark Christopher Nelson, ask the paranormal presence to go elsewhere.
“We’re not evicting them. We’re helping them,” said Hagley.
While most people shy away from buying haunted homes, Hagley said there are those who are excited about the prospect.
“I usually call a security guard to protect me because they’re usually nuts,” said Hagley.

This ghost likes its beer.
Pub ghost blamed after pint flies off the bar and lands on the floor - without spilling a drop.
A SPOOKED couple reckon their 17th century pub is haunted after a pint of ale flew off the bar and landed on the floor - without spilling a single drop.
Jenny Heard and Martin McConn laughed off ghost stories after taking over the historic Crow's Nest Inn on Bodmin Moor, in Cornwall.
But within days of their arrival the couple say they witnessed a full pint of Proper Job ale slide off the bar and onto the floor.
When they raced over to inspect the mess they were stunned to find the glass was standing upright on the stone floor and none of the beer had spilled.
As the oldest building in the village that bears its name, the Crow's Nest has long been a focus for thirsty locals and moorland visitors alike, appearing on Joel Gascoyne's famous Map of Cornwall as far back as 1699.
Numerous paranormal events have been chronicled over the years, from a clock that constantly ran ten minutes fast no matter how many times it was wound back, to a bell that was said to ring on its own.
Locals say as many as four separate ghosts haunt the traditional alehouse, including the spectre of a local woman who was murdered in 1844.
Jenny said: "It went terribly cold in the bar all of a sudden. Everybody in the pub just stopped and looked around to see how it could have happened, but the doors were all shut and nobody was standing near the glass at the time it moved.
"A house doesn't get to be this old without retaining a few of its more peculiar features.
"There's room for all of us here and we're looking forward to meeting more of our special guests properly."

Ghost Car or Faked Video?
The Video below is taken at a busy road intersection in Russia.
The vehicles are queuing up at a set of traffic lights waiting to turn left, once the lights are green the vehicle start their manoeuvre.
As the dark BMW approached the middle of the intersection another car appears from nowhere going straight on at the lights and only narrowly avoids being hit by any of the other vehicles.
The BMW drive appears to see the car as he breaks and comes to a stop.
The incident appears to have been filmed by an in car camera, but it is difficult to say that the film has not been tampered with.

Ghost of dead grandmother took a 'selfie'
Romanian woman claims ghost of her dead grandmother took a 'selfie' on her phone to warn her she was being punished in the afterlife.
The churches in Scurtesti in souteastern Romania have been packed after a local woman claimed that her dead grandmother’s ghost had taken over her mobile and used it to send a ‘selfie’ from the other side.
‘When I switched the phone on I was horrified to see my dead grandmother's face,’ said Gina Mihai, 34. ‘She had what looked like a snake around her neck, and the whole image looked as if it had been taken through a hole, like it was shot through a tear in the fabric that separates the living from the dead.
‘I took it to a fortune-teller who told me that my grandmother was sending me a message from the other side, the snake around her neck was a symbol of the fact that she was being punished in the other life for some sin.
‘By contacting us she was telling us that if we were to pray for her, we would still be able to save her soul.’
Miss Mihai and her family have been spending much of their time since praying in church along with dozens of other families terrified about the implications of a snake wrapped ghost sending a message from the other side.
Once a year there is a feast, the service of alms, in which Romanians travel to the local graveyard and hand over food as a gesture to the spirits in the afterlife
The food itself is in reality handed over to the poor at the end of the day, but the gesture is seen as regarding nourishment for those who have died and are now in the afterlife.
‘My grandmother died three years ago and I haven't taken any food for her to the graveyard. I was making doughnuts at the time and didn't want to get the phone dirty so I put it in my pocket, and when I took it out there was the image on the phone,’ said Miss Mihai.
‘The fortuneteller told me that was a mistake not to have paid tribute to her with an offering of food, and it was significant that she contacted me while I was cooking. I have taken doughnuts to the cemetery every day since then.’
Florica Mihai, another relative, said: ‘The village priest told me that we need to do 40 days of alms to make up for those that we missed and we are doing it now. We want to help her soul to be saved.’

Ghosts of Alcatraz.
Ghosts of Alcatraz Island
With its centuries old history from ancient Native Americans, to Fort Alcatraz, to a Military Barracks, and most often known service as one of the toughest federal penitentiaries in the Nation, it is no wonder that this place is said to be one of the most haunted in the nation.
Often described as a portal to another dimension, Alcatraz is filled with the energy of those who came to the "Rock” and seemingly never left.
From its first visitors, tales and legends of the island have circulated for several centuries. In the beginning, the Native Americans believed the island to be inhabited by evil spirits.
As severe punishment for violations of tribal law, Indians were sometimes isolated for a period of time on the island or even banished for life to live among the evil spirits.
While the island served as a federal penitentiary, a number of guards reported extraordinary experiences including hearing the sounds of sobbing and moaning, terrible smells, and reports of what they called "The Thing,” an entity that was said to appear with glowing eyes. Other reports were made of phantom prisoners and soldiers appearing before the guards and families who lived on the island.
Reportedly, even Warden Johnston, who did not believe in ghosts, once encountered the unmistakable sounds of a woman sobbing while leading a number of guests on a tour of the prison. The cries, heard by not only the warden, but also the guests, were described as coming from inside the walls of the dungeon. Just as the sobbing stopped, an icy cold wind blew through the group.
Since the 1940’s, apparitions have been seen at the site of the now burned-out shell of the warden’s house. During a Christmas Party at Warden Johnston’s, several guards told the story of a ghostly man who suddenly appeared before them wearing a gray suit, brimmed cap, and sporting mutton-chop sideburns. As the startled guards stared at the apparition, the room suddenly turned very cold and the fire in the Ben Franklin stove was extinguished. Less than a minute later, the spirit vanished.
Often it has been reported that on foggy nights, the old lighthouse will suddenly appear, accompanied by an eerie whistling sound and a flashing green light which makes its way slowly around the island. Appearing to both guards and visitors alike, the spectacle vanishes just as suddenly as it appears.
When the prison was still open, other guards told of hearing phantom cannon and gunshots, accompanied by screams that were so real they sent the seasoned guards to the ground, believing that prisoners had somehow escaped and obtained weapons. After taking cover, the guards would then cautiously look about to see absolutely nothing. These incidents could never be explained.
Another often reported experience of the guards was the smell of smoke that often came from a deserted laundry room as if something was on fire. When they went to investigate the black smoke was so thick it drove the guards from the room. However, just minutes later, the room was completely smoke free.
The notorious D-Block of the prison is said to have been, and continues to be, the most haunted block in all the prison. While first built the same as the other cellblocks, the Bureau of Prisons appropriated additional money for a more secure D-Block after the 1939 escape attempt, in which Arthur "Doc" Barker was killed.
D-Block, which became known as the "Treatment Unit” comprised of 42 cells with varying degrees of restrictions. For all prisoners incarcerated in D-Block, there was absolutely no contact with the general population. Thirty-six of the cells were virtually like the others in the general population; however, inmates were not allowed to work, nor go to the mess-hall for meals. They were allowed only one visit to the recreation yard and two showers each week, and all meals were served in the cells. Their only diversion was reading of prison approved material. These cells all faced the Golden Gate Bridge, from which fierce cold winds often blew. One guard who worked D-Block was known to turn on the air conditioning to make it even colder for those confined on the block.
Five of the remaining six cells in D-Block were known as Strip Cells, but were more often referred to as the "Hole.” Reserved for the most serious offenders of prison rules, these cells were located on the bottom tier, the coldest place in the prison, and contained only a sink, a toilet and low wattage light bulb that could be turned off by the guards. The prisoner’s mattresses were taken away during the day and they were not allowed at any time in the yard or showers, or given reading materials. Inmates could be sentenced to as many as 19 days in the hole, completely isolated and in a state of constant boredom.
The last Strip Cell, known as the "Oriental,” was the most severe punishment the prison could assign. Assuring complete depravation of all peripheral senses, the dark steel encased cell contained no sink or toilet, just a small hole in the floor for prisoner waste.
Inmates were placed naked in the cell, given a restricted diet, and confined in a totally pitch-black, cold environment. Although a sleeping mattress was allowed at night, it was removed at dawn each morning. Inmates were usually only subject to this degree of punishment for only 1-2 days.
A former guard who worked at the prison in the 1940’s reported that guards often saw the ghostly presence of a man dressed in late 1800’s prison attire walking the hallway next to the Strip Cells. On one occasion, when an inmate was locked in "the Hole,’ he immediately began to scream that someone with glowing eyes was in there with him. The 19th century spectral prisoner had become so much of a practical joke among the guards, that the convict’s cries of being "attacked” were ignored. The inmate’s screams continued well into the night, when they were suddenly replaced by total silence. The following morning, when the guards inspected the cell, the convict was found dead with a terrible expression on his face and noticeable hand-prints around his throat. The autopsy revealed that the strangulation was not self-inflicted.
At the time, many believed the inmate was strangled by a guard who had finally had enough of the inmate’s screaming. Though an investigation was made no one ever admitted to the strangling. Most believed that the prisoner was killed by the restless, evil spirit of the nineteenth century prisoner who was so often seen wandering the corridors. Adding to the mystery, when the guards line up the convicts for a daily count, one too many convicts were in the line-up. At the end of the row, appeared the recently strangled convict. As everyone, guards and prisoners alike, looked on in stunned silence, the ghostly figure vanished.
Today’s visitors and staff often report cold spots within the hallways of D-Block, as well sudden intense feelings. Cells and 12 and 14 D are the most active. Cell 14-D, is often reported to be almost 20 degrees colder than the rest of the cells on the block and numerous psychics have felt emotionally charged impressions in the corners of the cells where punished prisoners were known to have crouched and suffered. These cells are so eerie, that it is said that some park rangers refuse to go there alone.
When authors Richard Winer and Nancy Osborn, authors of the book Haunted Houses, made a trip to Alcatraz, they also felt eerie feelings in cell 14-D. When the pair, along with a park ranger, entered the cell, they all felt strong vibrations and tingling sensations in their hands and arms. Convinced that something or someone was there with them, Osborn stated that she had never felt so much psychic energy in one spot.
Today, these spirits that continue to lurk in the shadows of the often fog-enshrouded island have been heard, seen and felt by both the staff and many visitors to Alcatraz. The sounds of men’s voices, screams, whistles, clanging metal doors and terrifying screams are said to be heard within these historic walls, especially near the dungeon.
Co-author of the book Haunted Alcatraz, Michael Kouri, also has described receiving psychic impressions when he visited cell 14-D. Also experiencing tingling sensations, he tells of "seeing” and small man with his head shaved who "told” of being beaten, his legs broken by guards, and left in solitary confinement.
On another occasion when renowned ghost hunter Richard Senate and a psychic spent the night on Alcatraz, Senate locked himself in cell 12-D, where an evil spirit is said to make his home. As the steel door was closed, the ghost hunter felt icy fingers wrap around his neck, while the psychic experienced visions of the bodies of twisted and dismembered men.
In Cellblock C, many believe that the utility passageway where convicts Bernard Coy, Joseph Cretzer, and Marvin Hubbard were killed during their escape attempt in 1946 is haunted. Loud, clanging noises are often heard, but stop when the door is opened, only to resume again once it is closed. Others have reported seeing the apparitions of men wearing fatigues and hearing disembodied voices at the site of the riot that left the three prisoners dead.
The laundry room in Cellblock C is also said to hold an unseen presence. When a CBS news team brought in celebrity psychic Sylvia Brown, along with ex-convict Leon Thompson, Sylvia immediately encountered the unseen presence, as well as strong impressions of violence in the Laundry Room. As she described a tall man, with a bald head and small beady eyes, Leon Thompson, the ex-convict moved forward, stating: "I remember Butcher. He was a hit man with Murder Incorporated before they caught him. His name was Abie Maldowitz but we called him Butcher. Another prisoner killed him here in the laundry room.” Prison records confirmed that Maldowitz was killed by another inmate in the laundry area of Cellblock C
In the old hospital ward, park personnel have often heard voices as well as the screams of inmates who were often secured to a table until they were calmed down. Voices are also heard in the old mess-hall.
When Al Capone was imprisoned at Alcatraz he was assigned to a cell located on the outside west end of Cellblock B. Though the gangster was never allowed a musical instrument or a radio, many have reported the sound of a phantom banjo strumming within his cell.
In 1992, Alcatraz was featured on the popular television program Sightings, where several of the Park Service staff confirmed the haunted history of the prison. Among the stories told by staff were unexplainable crashing sounds, running footsteps, unearthly screams, cell doors that mysteriously closed of their own accord, moans, chains rattling, and the constant feelings of being watched.
Sightings also enlisted the help of psychic investigator, Peter James, to get his impressions as he walked through the prison. James soon described hearing the voices of men who had been driven mad, and experiences of abuse, fear and pain.
The tales of ghostly hauntings upon Alcatraz Island have become so frequent that the legends have become as popular as the island’s long history. Seemingly, the paranormal prison is destined to live up to its popular nickname of "Hellcatraz."
